August 2013 Weddings

Hi from an August 2012er

HI ladies! i am sure at some point lots of the girls from the August 12' board will be coming over to give their well wishes and advice... so I wanted to break the ice to say hello! It's been so busy since the wedding and insane in all our lives our own board as been quiet- but I wanted to lend a bit of advice before It's been too long before I make it back to the knot boards.

- it's true! it goes by in a flash. I still can't believe its "over" and i am now a married woman! It felt like it was over in a minute, literally. I feel like i woke up from a dream where I danced with my hubby and sang taylor swift with my friends and went on my honeymoon. It feels like it just happened a minute ago and that it happened an eternity ago! I can't describe the feeling- but this is it, it happens SO fast. lightening speed. Remember years nad years ago going to rpom and feeling like you danced one song and prom was over? It's just like that but times 98787x!!

-don't sweat the small stuff. I planned my wedding for over 2 years. I obsessed about everything from the cocktail napkins to the color of the bathroom baskets. No one really noiced that stuff but me. One, only ONE guest told me how thorough my wedding was. She said she was shocked that i didn't leave out one detail! i probably wasted hours laboring over things that I dind't need to stress over.

- Things will go wrong. You have to roll with the punches. The bakery forgot my serving ware and my cake toppers... i felt so sad for a minute i spent a lot of money on both and it was an important detail. NO ONE NOTICED. They assumed my cake was supposed to look as it had (the bow on the side of the cake fell off so they put it on top like a cake topper)... no one noticed the caterer tied all ribbons around a butter knife for us to cut the cake. i didnt even know where the ribbons came from, until someone said they cut them off some of the gifts!
And now, that is a story we will probably tell our kids- when we give them their cake servers, "mom and dad cute their cake with a butter knife wrapped with ribbons from guests gifts!"

-a lot of people have their own agenda. Think about it before you were engaged everytime you went to a wedding you envisioned your own day- what you might serve for dinner, what you might do, who might be there. it's human nature. With that said, that is why everyone has an opinion on everything you chose to do and say and wear and not wear. Roll with it, tell everyone your appreciate their advice. Take the giraffe plate they gave you at your shower and return it. Everyone is thinking of themselves and sometimes they have their own agenda (a date night out, a  time to reconnect with family) but the biggest agenda you need to have on that day is that you want to marry your husband!

GLUCK with the planning, best wishes!
