wedding planing

Hi I was wondering how long did it take to plan your wedding

Re: wedding planing

  • Hi! This is a really interesting question. Although my engagement is 16 months long, we had almost all of our vendors booked in less than 4 months. We would probably have a much shorter engagement if all of our vendors wouldn't have been booked for this fall. So I kind of feel like there is a difference between how long it takes to plan a wedding and how long the average engagement is, hah!

Is there anything specific you want to know? Anyone else want to chime in on super speedy planning?

  • We started planning about 18-24 months beforehand. We picked a date near the anniversary of our first date, then checked into it's availability with the venue we wanted. Lucky for us it turned out, and we planned for about 18 months from that point.

That gave us an opportunity to save our money, and for me to do all my DIY stuff.
  • Thanks I wanted to,get married next summer but my FI thinks we should get do,it in the, summer of 2014 so we can more time and money that's why am asking any tips thanks
  • I got engaged in Feb 22nd of this year and our wedding is in October so less than 8 months. I didn't want to put it off and at this point am a little mad it isn't here already :p I could not imagine waiting a year plus!

  • That's how I feel I don't wanna wait that long
  • DD was engaged for 3 years, but most of the wedding planning took place in the last 18 months.  You probably can plan as quickly as you want.  You just need to balance how soon you want your wedding with having the money to have the wedding you want to have.
  • I got engaged at the end of Janaury, this year. My wedding is September 16, 2012.

  • I got engaged in May of this year.  The wedding is September of next year.  I'm like mpickl.  Me and FI already have all our vendors and venues except the cake!  But the main reasons for waiting a little over a year for us is that:

    1) We both are saving to make sure we don't go into any debt and it will take that long based on the budget of our wedding and reception.

    2) His family is overseas and we needed to give them time to save and plan to come.

    3) The vendors and venues we wanted and chose are commonly booked over a year in advance so based on what we wanted we would have had to wait anyway.  Since this is the last time I plan to do this I was not willing to settle for any place or any vendor.

    4) I just started a new job and really need to save up vacation time so that I am not taking off a load of time (that would look bad) so soon and plus would end up having to come out of pocket unless I saved up my time.

We both would love to run off and get married tomorrow!  But we both feel it will be worth the wait especially to include family, good friends, and save money and the time will come and go quickly so I am focusing on enjoying my engagement and the planning process.
  • I was engaged a year ago yesterday and our wedding is in about 2 weeks. We got our venue in September 2011 so we "planned" for about a year. I told my finace that  I did not want a long engagement and we wanted to make sure we didn't get married during football season (big college football fans). We also had a lot of friends getting married this summer from April-July and August sounded right for us. It all worked out!
Good luck and do a little at a time and hopefully you won't be too overwhelmed. Congrats!!!

  • Thanks for,your comments
  • I would say 14 months because some vendors may be booked if you're in a tighter schedule
