anyone get a bridal portrait session?

Today I met with a photographer who offers a bridal portrait session pre wedding day.I have never heard of this. Has anyone tried it?

Re: anyone get a bridal portrait session?

  • I had never heard of this until I came to TK. Apparently they are really big in the South. Basically it's just a lot of pictures of you done up in your bridal gear. I don't really get it personally, you'll get plenty on your wedding day of just you if you have a decent photographer. I don't know too many people who will just hang up pictures of themself on their wedding day.

The only real plus I see is that it's a good opportunity to put a hair and make-up trial to use.

    But to each their own..

  • Our photographer offered this at no charge.
I decided not to do it and still came away with fabulous photos but, a friend of mine who used the same photographer did do it.
If I had it to do over I would go for it. They spent well nearly 2 hours with her and got photos in some outdoor locations they wouldn't have gotten on the wedding day. Also got some very provactive poses that were amazing. Poses that you might not get in a Catholic Church you know?
On your wedding day things go very quickly. A nice session without feeling like you're in a hurry can be a nice thing and the hair and makeup test can be a plus.

  • This is very big in many Asian conntries, except it includes the groom as well. Since they typically  don't have engagement sessions, I guess it's sort of like an engagement session for them. My cousin who got married in Korea did it (because it's almost a standard there), and she loved it. She said it was a "good practice" to stand in front of the camera and get used to it.

Personally, I would do it if I have time and was offered for free (and ask them if I could take the picture with the groom; if they say no, I would probably thini about skipping though). I think I'll be less "anxious" on the wedding day if I can have many of the "must" posed pictures done. Just my two cents. =)

Also, if you do it, can you ask if you can bring a friend? My cousins brought her friends (this is commonly done in Korea) and they were able to get some really funny and cadid shots during the session (when the photographer wasn't taking picture).
