New to the knot!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to post a quick hello. We got engaged on May 19th, and I've been casually browsing the knot since then, but I am excited to really get down to planning. My best friend got married this past weekend, and I am so excited that it is now my turn! Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Thanks everyone! Here's our engagement story (super long, lol): I knew that a proposal was probably coming soon, as we had discussed it extensively, been ring shopping a few months earlier, and he had  mentioned that he wanted to be engaged before he left for his 6-week Basic Officer Leadership Course (basic training for officers in the Army), which was on June 10th. At the beginning of May, he asked me if I wanted to take a trip up to his family's cabin in the NC mountains for a weekend getaway before he left for training. I thought for sure that this would be when he would propose, it would be perfect! Until he asked me if I wanted to invite some girlfriends....or his brother and his brother's girlfriend. Great, he definitely wouldn't be proposing if other people were on the trip. Well I turned down his offer to bring anyone along on the trip, with the small hope that it would still happen that weekend. Off to the mountains we went, and since he wasn't displaying any nervous or strange behavior, I put off any hopes of a proposal. On Saturday morning, we went hiking at some beautiful waterfalls that we had visited a few years before, early on in our relationship. As we got to the last overlook, we got a nice couple to take our picture, and sat on the rocks and enjoyed the waterfalls for a few minutes. After everyone else left and we were the only ones at the overlook, he started messing around on his phone to see if he could set up a timer on the camera and take another picture of us. He couldn't figure out how to do that, so he ran off to ask two women who had just left the overlook if they would take a picture of us. It was at this point that I thought he might actually be about to propose, and so I sat on the rocks by myself not really sure what to do, but excited about what was soon to come! He arrived back with the two women and sat beside me to take a picture, but then he turned towards me and started talking about our relationship (none of which I actually remember because I was crying by this point!), and then got down on one knee and proposed. The best part is that we have pictures of the whole thing, and the two women who took the pictures said that they had been having an awful day, but being able be there for our engagement made up for everything! We spent the afternoon browsing through the small shops in in Blowing Rock, NC, and kept the good news to ourselves for a few hours. It was kind of fun to know that we were the only ones who knew that we were engaged (except for our two friends on the mountain)! Later in the afternoon we called our families and friends, it was such a wonderful weekend!
