Holiday market catering/ officiant

Has anyone used them for a wedding before? Are they good to work with? My concern is pricing and if they provide what regular caterers provide ie. silverware/plates... Etc. Also... Anyone have any officiant referrals? We want something casual.. And not religious.... We may have a friend but I'm nervous about it.. Lol

Re: Holiday market catering/ officiant

  • We had one of my best friends do our ceremony (ordained online) and I wrote almost the entire ceremony. She rehearsed and did a great job! if the friend is good at public speaking and will take it very seriously, then I would recommend it, its a lot cheaper and more sincere.
  • I think Sue used holiday market so you may want to page her.

As for officiants, I can't suggest any to you.  We're having a friend of ours marry us (he's ordained) but he lives in PA and is making a special trip out for us.

  • I think MMROberts has a mind like a steel trap!

Lynx, yes I used Holiday Catering. Our venue (Greenmead Village) required us to use an outside caterer as they don't supply one.

We chose Holiday Market, and Traci there is fabulous to work with. However, Joe's Produce in Livonia was a close second after we had our tastings, but I personally just felt better with Holiday's presentation. Both are good and prices comparable.

As far as prices and supplies, I found both of the above to be willing to negotiate (this is because they make money from selling gourmet food items at their store, catering isn't the only way they make a profit). What we did with both was go in and tell them what we wanted for food, versus going from a menu. I'm a big foodie, and my hubby khows what he likes, and we chose sophisticated versions of basic foods. Their pricing was better than what we would have paid for an all inclusive venue. Their food was AMAZING!!! My guests still rave about it several months after the wedding, as well as the cake made by their bakery (yellow cake with Passion fruit mousse in the center, fabulous).

We had to bring in plates, glasses, table linens, eating utensils, and I priced these out with different vendors (even had a spreadsheet, LOL). But the difference in price for our guest list (under 80) was nominal when compared to the ease of just having Holiday secure the stuff, bring it, clear it, wash it. With other vendors we would have arranged for several different pick ups at the venue.

My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that they don't price "by the person". They evaluate the costs of the food they are supplying based on units, number of servings, or pounds (ie 10 lbs of pasta). You have to do some math of your own to compare their prices to a "per person" rate from other caterers.

When we wanted to have sliders and fries from Bates in Livonia as a late night snack, Traci was honest enough to say that they couldn't make it for the same price as Bates....so she ordered it from Bates and personally picked it up, then put it out in cute baskets around 9:30 for our guests.

If you want to see pictures of the food & presentation, go here and you can fast forward to the food pics: http://www.capturedbybrian.com/photos/kevinsuewedding/.... it's many pages into the pictures.
