Hey Ladies this may have been asked but I spent the last 30 minutes searching for this question (and watching the Bachelorette) and couldn't find an answer.

Has anyone been married by a friend who was ordained on line.  We have decided to have my uncle to do this to mary us.  I called the state of michigan and they said it was perfectly legal and acceptable in our state. 

But I was just wondering if anyone else has done this or will be doing it and how it went?

Do you ladies think I am nuts for doing this?  I just don't want to find out later it was never legally valid.  LIke I said I called the state already and they said it was fine but I am still wondering who else out there has done it?

I've never done it nor seen it done but I've heard about it.  The Universal Life Church is the main website people use to be ordained.  If the State of Michigan says it's legal, it's legal.  You don't have to worry about it.

We are doing this.  We have a family member that is going to use Universal Life Church.  I got the recommendation from a friend who used it for her wedding last summer.  They had a friend "go through the process" (which consisted of entering a name and clicking a few times) and he was ordained.  Together they came up with their ceremony and they are legally married.  I thought it was such a personal touch, so yes we are doing it and no I do not think you are nuts

I am doing this, and friends of ours did it a couple years ago, so, no, I don't think it's nuts.    For us, it is nice to be able to have someone (in our case a good friend) who knows us perform the ceremony, rather than a stranger.  I've made calls too (Michigan AND Florida, since our friend lives there), and it's all legal - no surprises down the road.  Hope that helps!

We had my brother-in-law get ordained through ULC and marry us.  It was so much more meaningful for us than somebody who we emailed with and had never met before.  Michigan said it was legal and we have had no problems (thought it's only been a bit over a month).  This was I was also able to write the entire ceremony myself which was awesome!

Thank you so much! I feel so much better knowing that people have done it sucessfully!  Yay!  I guess I just needed to hear it from my knotties!  Thanks Ladies!!!
