When hosting a bridal shower, should the cake and banners say  congratulations to the bride or the bride and groom?

My bridal shower cake said "Congratulations Alicia & Nathan" and then had our wedding date underneath that.  My DH was there for the whole shower, though.  Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

In my opinion, I would think bride and groom.

You might could check the Etiquette board to see what their thoughts are.

We didn't have any banners at either of our showers. Our cakes did however have both of our names on it.

I don't think it matters really...whatever makes the most sense.

If it matters, our cake had both our names on it, but FI was at the shower the whole time.

It might also depend on what it is called -- if I remember right, a Bridal Shower is usually in honor of the brides, whereas a Wedding Shower is in honor of the couple.  We called both of ours Wedding Showers since we are both attending both of them.  Honestly, the end result is the same and I don't think it matters too much either way,

My bridal shower was basically thrown for me, to shower the bride. We didn't have a co-ed shower and my husband didn't show until the end of the shower. The cake would have said congrats "bride". But if a co-ed shower, or if groom is going to be there opening gifts with you, then in my opinion - congrats bride & groom.

I agree with all the pp's (smart bunch on this board ).  Our first shower was yesterday, FI was there the whole time. We had cupcakes so there was no cake or banners to worry about, so no help there. But the girls have done a great job of explaining the differences.
