Does this sound like a good deal?

My fiance and I have been looking, on and off, for a reception hall. We prefer to get something that is all inclusive instead of dealing with multiple vendors for catering, decorations, etc. We are also on a budget and trying to find a really good deal. The lowest price we found for a buffet and open bar at a decent hall was $35 per person (when we include tax and service charges). There was one nice place that charged less but we did not like the manager and some other places that were cheaper but really far away or a bit run down looking. We live in Farmington and want something nearby in the metro area.

Do you think it is possible to find a nice venue (clean and well maintained) with a buffet and open bar for less than $35 per person (include tax and gratuity)?  We are not purchasing flowers, centerpieces, or chair covers so the place has to look nice since we can not afford to spend extra on decorations. Neither of us are DIY people and even if we were we do not have the time for that, both of his parents are elderly and in poor health so he spends a lot of time caring for them and I have a weird work schedule.

About the hall, have you checked out rivercrest in rochester hills? That's where brother had his wedding. It's very clean, the food is good, they kept it maintained, and the food is not that expensive. Check it out :)

And unfortantetly you can't change you're user name unless you delete your account and start all over. It sucks I know :(

  • Check out Arnaldos

  • What city is your venue in?  It's very possible that you found a really great deal if it's a smaller city.  If it's a more expensive city like Birmingham, I would say to double check everything because that sounds too good to be true.

And for the record, I love your user name!  Great song :)

  • honestly it sounds like a great deal if you like the hall. For that price and it includes the booz! Any cheaper and you may get what you pay for, and it may not be very good.
  • Thanks for all of the responses. I considered Arnaldos but unfortunately it is too far. My FI and I live in Farmington and the venue is in Berkley. I think I looked at Rivercrest but not sure. I'll have to double check.
  • i agree with checking into River Crest in rochester, that is where we are having our cemony/reception. We choose a friday in  April of 2013 and we ended up with a friday discount and an april discount. I think we will be paying like $32 per person.  Not sure if that is an area you are interested in or not.

Also, We had looked into Burton Manoor in Livonia, the cost was good, we decided against it for a few things that it didn't have that we wanted, mainly an outdoor ceremony site. But it may work for you. They do have 2 or 3 other facilities in differant areas so maybe one of the others would work better for you. But if i remember correctly there prices included the taxes and gratuity. Check them out too.

I planning to get married in April 2013 too! We are aiming for April 12th.  What's your date? I'll look into Rivercrest. Does your price with them include tax, gratuity, and drinks? Thanks.
  • If you are looking to stay within the furthest boundaries mentioned (venue in Berkley, you live in Farmington), that's a pretty good price.

My hubby just had his 45th HS reunion (yes, 45 years, LOL) and it was at St Mary's Cultural Center in Livonia. Link here: http://www.saintmarylivonia.com/cc/

They had an open bar and a buffet. Food was good (not great, but then I'm a serious foodie), and the hall was nice. The menu available on the above link doesn't have alcohol prices, so not sure how that worked.

You don't say how many people you are having, so I'm not sure about other recommendations I could make. In Warren there is the Gazebo, on the corner of Mound & 13 Mile, I don't recall their prices but do recall they were reasonable. May be too far for you though.

    Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the suggestions. We will have about 85 guests. We considered the Gazebo it is a beautiful venue and we calculated the per person price with tax and gratuity as $34 pp. The distance was a bit far from us and they set the buffet up on the dance floor so no dancing until the buffet is broken down which we didn't like. We looked at St. Marys but I can't remember why we eliminated them.

From what I'm hearing so far it sounds like our price is pretty good. When I was discussing the reception with my mom she told me that the price sounded high but she lives in Saginaw so prices in the metro Detroit area are probably a bit higher. Plus I'm sure she is using my sisters wedding as a comparison and my sister had a dry wedding in Saginaw and our family cooked the food.

We are getting married on April 26,2013. We ended up we a $6 off per person with the two discounts , that will be for a buffet dinner and an open bar, but it does not include tax or gratuity.
