Help! Wedding on a low-budget.

I am getting married next September and our budget for food, decorations (which is the least important), and ceremony is $2,200 (with a little wiggle room).  We have about 70ish guests and if need be, we may have to cut that number down.  The fiance and I are really into vintage or rustic style weddings but everything that we like is at least 3X's our budget.  Can anyone help?!?!?!?

Re: Help! Wedding on a low-budget.

  • What kind of reception are you thinking of having?  DJ, dinner, and dancing?  What locations are you thinking about?  Is the $2200 just for the food, decorations and ceremony?  When you say ceremony, what exactly are you thinking - officiant, site, chairs, etc?

  • Welcome to the Detroit board!

The more you tell us the better we can help you. The questions above are a good starting point.

If you are talking about hiring someone to marry you (officiant), food, decor for 70 people (or less), your best bet will be to consider some of the following:

If $2200 is your total budget for everything, then you would probably be looking at spending about $10-$12 per person for the food, $700-$840. That probably doesn't include alcohol, but you didn't mention it. With that price range you then have enough for an officiant, maybe a small cake, and some decor items. I did a LOT of DIY for my wedding, and everyone on here is really nice and helpful.

"Vintage" means a lot these days.........it could be the late 1800's, through the 1960's. I understand "Rustic". You might find a nice city park where the rental is inexpensive since your wedding is in September. Beverly Hills Park in Beverly Hills MI (on Beverly Rd, which is 13 1/2 Mile, just west of Southfield Rd) is really nice. They have a pavilion, real bathrooms, LOL, and I don't recall that it is really expensive. Not sure if they rent that far in advance.

Look into using a catering service from one of the gourmet stores in the area. Randazzo's, Holiday Market (they did our wedding, yum!), Joe's in LIvonia do catering. Because they don't make all their money on catering and also have stores, we found them more willing to negotiate.

Unless you are willing to consider a restaurant that can hold all your guests, you are probably going to have to have it at a park and bring in the food. I know there are several restaurants in the Warren area that do catering. We used Chicken Shack for both my kid's graduation parties and it was well under $12 per person for enough food to feed an army. I supplemented with some side dishes I made.

  • If you're looking to really have a fun and wild time at your Bachelorette Party then you HAVE to call this company. It's called Premier Entertainment or PremierGentlemen.com.

They are a dancer agency for Bachelorette parties and hire some of the most professional and hottest dancers I have ever seen. Me and my girl friends just went to one of their shows and it was outrageous! Seriously, one of the best nights of my life.

    Definitely check it out :)
