New York-Hudson Valley

I need a florist!!

I am having a TERRIBLE time finding a florist in the Hudson Valley. I've met with three. Two of them were not very receptive to any of the ideas I had for my wedding day and just seemed to want to do it their way. The third one I loved but I am having a really hard time getting her to give me a price estimate. She also said she was going to have samples done about a week and a half ago and has yet to do them! I really need some suggestions on affordable florists who are easy to work with. We're getting married in Garrison so florists within 30 minutes of there would be best. Thanks!

We're using Columbia Florists in the Bronx.  It is a bit further but they may be will to travel and are very reasonable.  We got good reviews from a cousin.

I'm using Lee Vazquez for my wedding later this month. Her work is amazing, but I don't love her personality. I find her to be very snippy.

I am using Grammy's Garden in Warwick.  It is a little farther away, but they are a super sweet couple that seems up for doing whatever you envision.  They also grow most of their own flowers, which I think is really cool.

Shari, I'm surprised you didn't like Lee.  I liked her allot and didn't find her snippy at all.  She was very patient and accommodating with me.  In fact, she is one of my favorite vendors.

It's not that I don't like her. I'm just surprised that she's not as nice as I thought. When we first met with I loved her and really appreciated her candor. I do most of my communication with her via email and I find her to be pretty short and snippy. It doesn't change the fact that I love her work. I'm a bride that asks a lot of questions, and she isn't as receptive of that as our other vendors.

Check out Rosemary's on 9D in Wappingers Falls.  I met with at least 6 florists & she was fabulous!  She not only came under budget but I don't have to sacrifice any of the flowers that I wanted.  Mind you the all the other florists were at least $500-$1500 over my budget based on what I wanted & even then they were trying to change all my thoughts & designs. I would highly suggest you check her out.  Our ceremony is in Poughkeepsie & the reception is in Cold Spring & she's only charging about $50.

Best of luck!  I know the frustration!

we met with lee and i felt the same way as you, shari.  in fact, that was the reason we chose NOT to use her.  i found her email responses to be very curt and had a "tone" to them.

we are using david anthony in monroe.  i had read reviews that he was $$$ but he wound up quoting us in the same range as a few others we met with.  his work is beautiful and he definitely understood what we were looking for.

funny, we did the opposite. I met with David Anthony first, absolutely loved him and his work. I had NO clue what I liked or wanted when I met with him and pretty much told me everything I had no idea I like... it was like he knew me... kind of odd, but in a good way. Anyway, I though this prices were steep so we shopped around. Our officiant recommended Lee and said she would be much cheaper.... honestly, it is costing less, but not much less. The big difference for us is that we're having a chuppah and my FI wanted to build it himself and have the florist decorate it (he's quite the handyman!) Most florists said it was a liability to work with something that wasn't theirs, whereas Lee was willing to do it. She won't put it up, so he has to assemble it the morning of the wedding, but she's willing to decorate it. And with him builidng it it's saving us over $500!
