Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Unsightly unmovable object at reception site

Hi everyone!  So I have chosen to hold my wedding at a historic site (an old military fort as it were) where I am from.  It's gorgeous to be sure I promise!  My Hubby to Be desires an outdoor ceremony and this has the perfect spot...almost.  It's a lovely courtyard hidden away behind some of the older restored buildings only problem...The bathroom building is RIGHT THERE!  :(  (I have some pics) Does anyone have any ideas how I can basically separate the wedding ceremony from the building so the guests aren't sitting there going "oh we watched them get married in front of a bathroom" I want the wedding to be memorable but definitely NOT memorable for that.  The building is permanent, stone structure enterances for men on one side and women on the other and a big ol' "RESTROOMS" sign hangs off the side facing the courtyard.  The one thing we ask is that any suggests be budget friendly and if possible DIY.  Thanks so much!!!!

See!  Ugh!  lol

  • I would recommend building a sort of alter/wall out of electrical conduit and fabric. Electrical conduit can be bent(with the proper tools) or you can buy fittings to attach the pieces together. Conduit is generally a silver color, though you could easily spray paint it. Also, seeing as electrical conduit is made of metal, it's generally very sturdy and can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes or most home improvemant stores. Of course, if you aren't comfortable with using conduit then you could probably build the same thing but with wood instead.

  • Could you turn the ceremony so it's facing the other way, so you'd have your backs to it? Or it looks like there's two trees in the picture, have the ceremony under one of them - or between them - so that if people see the wall they can't see that it's a bathroom?

Or are there any other outdoor spots there that will work? If it was me, that would be my route... :P
  • Have the ceremony so the guests' backs are to the bathrooms.
