The Garrison and Highlands Country Club - Reviews?

Hello all,

Has anyone booked or hosted a wedding at either of these venues? Were the prices competitive? I'm looking to host a Sept or Oct 2011 wedding; I live in Manhattan, and it's getting tough to find a venue on a "reasonable" budget. Thanks in advance for any advice you can pass along!

My husband and I just had our reception at the Highlands in July and they were awesome! We looked at tons of places and they were by far the best deal. The space is beautiful and the food is great. I really can't say enough good things about them. I really don't think you can go wrong. If you contact them ask for Adrienne, she's wonderful!

Great! Thanks for the advice. Do you mind sharing any suggestions on vendors in that area?

I had my wedding at The Garrison this past August and I loved it. It is a beautiful location, the food was amazing, the prices were reasonable and I worked with Michael who was very very helpful and pleasant to work with. I recommend the place 100%. I don't know what the prices are at the Highlands, but I can tell you that the event room is beautiful, however I haven't seen their ceremony location. The Garrison's ceremony spot has gorgeous views of the river. And I have to say all of our guests were impressed with the setting. I can't be happier with choosing The Garrison. I live in Brooklyn, and at first I was looking for a place in the city but I have to say the one hour drive was so worth it. Let me know if you have any more questions, I would be happy to help. Good luck.

They have suggested vendors, naturally, but the vendors we used and liked were Flowers by David Anthony and Dave Elgart Music for ceremony and reception. David Anthony is in the Hudson Valley Knot directory. Dave Elgart is actually from Morris County, NJ, but they came to the Highlands for us and didn't charge for travel. Our photographer we hated, Kelly Vasami Photography. I might stick with one of their recommended photographers.
You can check out some reviews I posted a few weeks back here:

I was married at the Highlands Country Club last month.  It was AMAZING.  The space was beautiful, the food was fantastic, Adrienne the event manager worked w/ us every step of the way.  I felt it was a good value.  Everything turned out exactly how we wanted it and that is priceless in my book.  Local venders - I used Jim Altieri as my photographer and he was excellent.  Check him out online.  jimaltieri.com I also used Sterling Events as my band, though the acoustics weren't ideal and the band had to completely unplug but once they did, it was fine.  I might recommend a DJ, though I did love my band.

Both are beautiful places with great food. And reasonable prices compared to what I can only guess you are seeing in NYC. The only thing you are going to want to watch closely is your expected guest-count. We were looking for a Saturday in June and we were told the minimum at the garrison for that day was 150, minimum for Highlands was 125. But they hold a maximum of 130. So, not a lot of wiggle room. Just something to keep in mind.

    GL!

I'm getting married at the Garrison in 11 days - I'll let you know how it turns out ;)

So far, I've been very happy with everything, though!

Just had my wedding at the Highlands last month and I cannot say enough great things about them. The food was amazing, the venue is beautiful and the site coordinator Adrienne is fantastic. She was with us all the way. I highly highly recommend them! :)
  • I really like the Garrison. Could someone tell me what they spent on reserving the place?
