Red Lion Inn - Recent experience?

Hi all,

Despite ready quite a few complaints about the Red Lion Inn, we recently went and looked at it -- I LOVE IT! I am still concerned though about all the negative reviews i've read. The woman we met with was extremely nice and helpful and mentioned that she's been out the past 3 years due to back problems and just came back in December. I'm hoping that this has meant positive changes for the RLI! Does anyone have recent experience with them (April, May, June 2011?)

I'd love to hear any feedback-- good or bad! Thank :)

    Hi...

I had my wedding at the Red Lion on April 30th.  I can not say enough good things about Elizabeth and Stacey and my wedding.  I had both the ceremony and reception there.  And they were both lovely to work with, handled everything perfectly and I couldn't be happier with my wedding, the food, the backdrops for the pictures, etc.

I had SO many issues with the hotel and inn keeper though.  I would advise to you not let any of your guests stay here.  The inn keeper was rude and disrespectful and I would not wish her on my worst enemy.  The inn keeper is the ex wife of the owner, so she isn't going anywhere despite her incompetence.  (examples of issues with her include her telling my sister in law that there would be a crib in their room upon their arrival at the hotel, but when they checked in, there was no crib and no one knew where to find one.  Her claiming my father in law never paid for his room, despite me seeing the copy of the credit card receipt, her inability to print receipts for my guest - and then telling me I was rude when I stated that it was part of her job and I wouldn't be going anywhere until I had one in my hand, her telling at least four of my guests that the wedding was taking place else where and the reception was at 730 - the wedding was on site at 4:30 and the reception started at 5, I could go on and on and on....)

If you can just deal with the wedding/event planning side of things, you will have a spectacular day.  Just don't stay there!  (the Nantasket Beach Resort, 4 miles away however was lovely, and my guests that stayed there had no issues what so ever, despite the ownership changing hands between my booking a room block and my wedding)

Ahh! I am so happy to hear something positive! :) I agree about the innkeeper - just from being there for an hour she seemed to have a bit of an attitude.

Great to hear about the Nantasket Beach Resort - I know nothing about that area but had heard it was a bit run down. Glad to hear you liked it though.

Did you use both floors of the barn for your reception? How did that work out? Did you have stations or sit down?

    I had a small wedding - 51 people.

We used the main floor for the ceremony, and then everyone headed up stairs for cocktails.  We had a plated dinner and dancing back down on the main floor of the barn after the cocktail hour.  (we skipped the appetizer option to add more to our passed hours douvers).  The food was quite tasty (I'm particular - I'm a chef) and it was all served promptly and hot (I know some reviews mention that as an issue).

A great thing about the space is how you can sit at the dinner tables and still be able to carry on a full conversation even with the music at dancing volume.  My guests commented on that and how much they enjoyed being able to hear what people were saying.

Also, if you do go ahead with this as your venue, take a few minutes to go to the nearby beach and take photos.  We got some amazing shots - some of my favorites - and it only took us 20 minutes total (driving to and from, and photos)

The nantasket beach resort was just renovated.  The lobby looked brand new when I was there.

Good luck with your planning.  Feel free to message me with any questions you may have about the space.

This is great to see...we looked at the Red LIon this past weekend and fell in love. The only problem is the cost...thinking we can't do November 2012 and will have to wait till April 2013 (which seems SO far away - 2 birthdays!) But maybe its worth the wait!

How much does the Red Lion Inn cost as a wedding venue?  Roughly!! :-)  THANKS!  LOVE the big open barn look...
