Wedding is a year away and every photographer is booked?!

Ok, maybe not every photographer, but it sure seems like it.

I have e-mailed 9 photographers in the past day, 4 of which I've already heard back from and are booked! (not to mention the 4 or so other photographers I've e-mailed in the past few weeks who are already booked). I seriously give up.

Rant over.

Who have you already contacted? Also, what price range are you looking to stay within?

    That sucks!!!

I could recommend mine, Katie Hall, I though her pictures were good, although I was upset that she arrived 30 mins late.

Your wedding date must be very popular if photographers are getting booked 1 year in advance. Sometimes it's a obscure date or a popular holiday weekend. Not sure what your style or budget is but I have a few faves I'd recommend.

Visual-Obsession- CT, two photographers, modern edgy
Lisa Rigby- MA, one photographer, photojournalist, creative
Tyra Bleek - MA, one photographer, vintage style
The Feds- MA, two photographers/hubby-wife team, photojournalist, creative
Avenna Studio - MA, two photographers/brothers, modern artistic
Kristen Spencer - R.I, two photographers, fasion editorial, edgy

Try David Barnes - he was great to work with and we love our wedding photos.

Our date is 9/17. I know September is popular, but my thinking was that everyone was booking up the weekend before mine (9/10/11) and I wouldn't have a problem. Guess not!

The booked photographers are: Joseph Prezioso, Kelly Dillon, Molly Bergeron, Melissa DeShamps, Strut, Rachel Kate...the list goes on. I still have 5 photographers I'm waiting to hear back from. So I guess not all is lost.

We are trying to keep our budget at or under $4k. And thanks for the recs, I will look into them.

We worked with Kate at k. Photographie for our RD photos. She did an awesome job. Definitely would recommend her for wedding photos since I've kept up with her blog since my wedding and I'm always impressed with her wedding posts.

We are working with Bharat from Bharat Parmar Photography.  He is wonderful, we just did our e-pics with him earlier this month.  He did the wedding of FI's best man and we just fell in love with his work. (A mix of photojournalistic and classic photography.) We are paying $4000, but he has packages that are less, and does a la carte items as well to fit your budget.  He's super friendly and so easy to work with.

I am working with Peter and Kate Paradise.  Their online portfolios are mostly portraiture but they've done weddings for my friends and they are excellent and super easy to work with.  Also, they have this way of capturing YOU when they're shooting.  Check out www.peterparadise.net and www.kateparadise,net

    Good luck!

Have you looked at Kory Johnson? He did our wedding with and engagement session included. He was very reasonable and totally fun to have around. He came early while we got our hair done and didn't leave until we left the reception.

We used Scott Metzger for our wedding and loved his work.  You can check out the slideshow and our album proof (links below his review in my bio).

Another photographer I used was Rachel Hadiashar at mergeweddings.com.  She did my b-pics and also some e-pics (see e-pics in bio, there's also some by Scott there).  She took a hiatus from weddings this past year to travel, but I think she's back and booking.   Here's her website:

I posted an ad on craigslist this morning looking for a photographer for my south shore wedding. I got 45 responses. Just today.

FI is a photographer, so some of them he automatically discarded based on their portfolios as not worth the money for the level of skill they possess, but we narrowed the list down to 5 or 6 of them.....all who know how to actually change the settings on their cameras for indoor/outdoor exposures and all for under $1500.

We used Dan Nystedt (www.nystedtphotography.com) for our wedding and Shannon Sorensen (www.shannonsorensenphotography.com) for our post-wedding brunch and Rock the Frock.  We love both of them & would highly recommend either (more complete reviews in my bio).  They are both well within your budget.  Dan takes more fun/candid shots ("photojournalistic" as people say), and Shannon takes very romantic pics, playing with lighting & poses.

    Check them out!  :)

My three daughters all got married in the past 3 years.  I would recommend each of their photographers. (they all used different ones)

    Keith Berry (berryphotos.com)
Black Thumb Studio (formerly Jeff Turner Photography) blackthumbstudio.com
    John LaConte - Johnlophoto.com

Thought all 3 of them did a fantastic job.  If I had to pick a favorite it would be Jeff Turner (Black Thumb Studio).  He and his assitant George are incredible to work with!   Good luck!

I have to second Jeff Turner at Black Thumb Studio. I just got married at the end of August and Jeff was INCREDIBLE. I am in love with my photos and Jeff was so great to work with. It's the little things that set him apart, He took the time to learn and remember everyone in my bridal party's names - all 15 of them, plus our parents!! I can't recommend him enough. Good luck!

Try Nicole Chaput -- her work is amazing.  She is a friend of ours and is doing our wedding on 9/24/11, she also recently photographed our friends' wedding on 9/5/10.  she has a portfolio on our site.  she and her assistant get all of the photos you would expect, plus some amazing candids as well as artistic photos.  i highly recommend!
