reception venues on a serious budget

Hi All!
I've been trying to find a decent venue for a small reception (40-50 people) on a very small budget. (around 5K) Its a halloween theme wedding and we dont mind doing our own decorations and bringing in catering. All in all I would like to spend 3K or less total for rental, food drinks ect. Any suggestions? Is this even possible?

Where in MA are you looking? North shore, south shore, Cape, Boston, Worcester?

And to answer your question, anything is possible.  ;)

whoops forgot to put that info in there. We are on the north shore. The wedding is in salem Ma, and we would like the reception reasonably close (but outside of salem, which will be waay overpriced during halloween season) Danvers, beverly, peabody ect.

If you are on a really tight budget try VFW halls. I went to a graduation party and a Halloween party at one. I found this link: http://www.vfw.org/oms//findpost.aspx

    Good luck!

I agree with Jen.  VFW, Legion, and K of C halls are your best bet on a tight budget.  If you take your time looking around you can find some that are nice.

It's possible.  We're having a lunch reception at a Holiday Inn for 70 people for $3800, plus $150 worth of decor.  We are having a DJ, but you can do an iPod instead.  If you're not set on dancing, you can reserve a room in a restaurant, too.

Thank you for the responses! We have been checking out some strange places that have some decent wedding packages. I would do a restaurant but we are set on having a dance floor. The VFW halls are a good idea, that might be our fall back if the places we are looking at dont work out!

The Polish American Club in Danvers is reasonable and very pretty.
