Bizarre names

My costco is littered with them.  Last night, I saw Rawdon and Kai.  This is not the first time I've looked at name tags and thought, "oh, you poor, poor child." For the record, both of the above were very caucasian males.

Re: Bizarre names

  • A friend of mine allowed her husband to name their son "Anakin Vader"
  • People I knowKiki, Angeela, Joleesa, Jardin, Tovashea, Cardamin, Dallas, Ousmane....
  • Anna, Whenever dh and I bring up baby names he reminds me that he really really wants to name our kidKaylee CamaroI keep telling him I will not name our kid after his old car lol.
  • FWIW, I've made up name tags at work before.  We were allowed and it was fun.  I was Conchita from Colombia once.  Good times. But I think Ashlee Simpson's baby takes the cake: Bronx Mowgli... um, really?
  • Kai and Koi are both really popular where I am from. I just don't get odd spellings...Haighleigh for Hayley....these kids are going to be correcting people every single day :(
  • Alexia, I agree. That's something you name your dog. "Here, Mowgli!! Time to come inside, boy!!" Rock star babies... rockin' cracked out names since '67.
  • Kaylee Camaro sounds like a porn star name
  • I have seen: Supremeson, Sunnysky (yes both are one word first names) also Zhane for a girl. People should consider that their children my become professionals one day.
  • Hahaha, I have a cousin named Kai (also a very caucasion male).  I have a beef with people who give their daughters ditzy names.  I'm sorry, but a "Candi" is never going to be CEO of anything, and can certainly never run for a major political office.  Did you ever see this story?  Definitely wins the strangest name prize: http://tinyurl.com/55ccjl
  • Totally true story: at my sister's day care there is a girl named A-a. (Pronounced Adasha.)

  • come to St Thomas.  I swear the make up names down here.  The locals tend to have t-shirts made up with all the offspring of an older person for their large birthday parties.   It's not unusual to see 4 rows of about 25 names of people all with the first name begining with the same letter.  Example there will be a Keshawn, Kishaun, Keshaun, Keshauna, K'shwan, Kia, K'ia, Keye, K'eye,etc... all from the same family.Another family are named Lu, Lou, Lew, L'ew, L'ou, Lue,Leuw, Loo, L'o

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

A friend of mine in LA just recently had a daughter and named her Pilot. If she had named her something normal though, it just wouldn't have been as appropriate.

  • That's what I said Anna!!!I thought Kaylee Marie sounded nice, but apparently Marie is the dogs middle name...We also debate about Kaylee vs Kayleigh
  • Bowden is the most recent.  A girl I know named her son this.  It's not that weird but a town about 40 minutes away from here is called Bowden and there's a big prison there.  So, if you do somethign bad or illegal you'll be like "Man, I hope I don't end up in Bowden..!"

  • I really liked the name Bristol but then Sarah Palin had to come about and ruin it for me.
  • I like the name Kairi, but the boyfriend says it sounds like an Asian foreigner trying to say Kylie.
  • My RB's name is Tracen.  Different but I actually really like it.
  • Ha!  The Bowden Pen!  That's as bad as naming your kid Ponoka.  Yeesh.

  • My mom used to work in Labor and Delivery and she told me all kinds of stories about bad names.  My favorite was one mother who's infant daughter's nursery label said "Infant Female" and the mother thought the nurse named her baby.  There is a young lady walking around somewhere named Female (pronounced Fa-Molly).

  • I heard someone call their kid Dyson in a gift shop once.  I mean, I know its an awesome vacuum and all, but really?
  • I taught in a preschool/daycare center and there was a toddler named Malaria. Also, there were three sisters that were all super close in age that were there: Daisy, Lily and Rose.
  • These are a few that I know IRL: Red, Gray and Alone - brothers with the last name Wolfe Cotton and Denim - siblings
  • OK, so my SIL is about to name my niece Ainsley Ella-lynn. A little weird, yes, but definitely a mouthful. In addition to this, I have a couple of friends who never come up with names for their kids before they're born. On their daughter's birth certificate, it says "Baby Mountain Girl". I swear. And then their last child, he didn't have a name until he was nearly 3 months old, and they finally decided upon: Quillan Meligh.

  • My sister, who is for all intents and purposes the model of a surburban soccer mom (read NOT alternative), named her daughter Paige Forte. Yes, that is pronounced like Pg. 40.
