Does your FI/H make you smarter?

Re: Does your FI/H make you smarter?

  • He tells people that I'm "10% smarter" than him. I think it's probably the other way around. Or maybe we're pretty evenly matched, but just have advantages over the other in certain areas.
  • Sometimes I wonder if FI dated some true fucktards in the past, because in the beginning he tried to "help" me by giving me advice (read: Telling me how to) about buying my house, stories in the news, dealing with people, etc. He's really smart, and really into the news/politics, and so am I. I was buying my fourth house, I read 5-6 news outlets daily, and I deal with people as a career. LOL I think he was just used to less independent women. It's refreshing that we can talk about tons of subjects and keep up with each other. He teaches me things about music/pop culture and I teach him things about drywalling and floor refinishing. LOL I did buy my daughter a car last week and I didn't tell him about it until it was in my driveway. I knew what I was doing and I really didn't want him (or my dad) second-guessing me and trying to "help" me negotiate the price, etc. It was the last big thing I'll do before we make all big decisions together, so I really just wanted to do it for my daughter on my own.Long answer short (too late!) I think we make each other smarter, but we're both pretty smart individually.
  • Cobra Blower=Win. Actually Cobra anything=win! FI is beyond obsessed with cars. He's on like 3-4 different forums at any one time. I can't believe how those guys are over there. I don't get butt hurt about it, its not about me. They are all just giant idiots. You have 30 yr old men turning into 5 yr olds! Doesn't help that FI is usually the instigator...he's such a sh!t talker. He's been banned so many times. Yet the members really seem to like him. Between his height (6'10) and his totally rebuilt Mustang and custom licence plate (Regulator), we can't go anywhere without people knowing him. We even went to MY hometown and people recognized him! Weirdo.

  • I would love to spend some time on a road course.  I keep buggin FI to take his car to the 1/4 mile track, but he doesn't want to wreck another tranny.  His car would suck on a road course, too daamn heavy.  I want a Cobalt SS to play around on road courses with sometime.  After wedding project me thinks.
  • Ooh, we love to play with the Mustangs around here.  Most think they can take us, but none expect to have a mp112 blower screaming at them.  All he does is goose it a bit and they go away.  It's quite amusing.I know how the knowing thing goes Louiseville.  Whenever we got back to his area, we don't have to call anyone, someone sees the car coming and all the sudden the town shows up at the bar.  We went to a wedding once, and I swear there was more attention paid to the car and engine than the bride and groom.  I kinda really felt bad for them, but it doesn't help when the groom is begging for a ride.
  • We definitely learn from one another. We both helped motivate and encouraged one another to do well in school and so I credit him to helping me earn a 4.0 gpa although he knows nothing of my field. I'd say we're pretty well matched intellectually, but with different interests so we both have unique knowledge bases.
  • It's nice to see some other car chicks around here!  I try to talk to my girlfriends around here and I get blank stares.  It's not totally their fault though.  They can't help that I have it as a passion and I work for a company that sells car parts on the internet(my H works with me here too).  It's all cars, all the time.

  • We encourage each other be more thoughtful, more rigorous, more ambitious as scholars. More specifically, I encourage him to have higher standards for himself in terms of scientific reasoning and evidence, and he encourages me to tackle harder questions. I think that is a large part of why I married him.I feel that between the two of us, he might be a little bit smarter. But he doesn't seem to think so.
  • FI is a really great driver and has the car to back it up. It is fun when people think they can take him and he plays along for a second and then guns it. Most people (in the car scene) know not to mess with him, but then you have the noobs try to take him...its never good. It pisses them off so freakin bad! I'm actually a car girl by default. He talks about it so much that I really have no choice. I don't have any personal interest in cars, but I love him and try to make an effort to do things he's interested in. What's nice, now that we're hanging otu with an older crowd (thank God!), there are car wives and we can talk about other thins. Not so fun when we're hanging out with guys that have a flavor of the week.
