Our situation is the exact same as Dani's.In addition we have two dogs who would alert us if someone were breaking in, so yes I think FI would have enough time to disengage the safety and load it.

We're getting a dog but it's a golden retriever, so it would probably just wag its tail and lick the intruder to death, if anything.I guess I'm still on the fence about it.  Until we have kids we could do as you guys have done and just keep it nearby with the safety on.  It's not like we live in a bad area or anything, but I live in CT and especially after the home invasion of a couple years ago that a pp referenced, I find myself a little preoccupied with worst case scenario visions.Right now I'm going with the gigantic Mag-Lite on my bedside table.

I'm not saying that my dogs wouldn't lick the intruder, either. I hope I never have to find out.We keep the dogs in our bedroom with the door shut, but they would alert us to any noises.

Hahahah. SO, is Brinks Home Security local or national?  If it's national, I just want to say I love the commercials where people are doing random things and some guy dressed all in black with a ski mask on ninja kicks the door open.  And that's exactly what this thread made me think of.  [/stream of consciousness]

We went with a local company who monitors the alarms right here in our city, but ADT is popular in our neighborhood.  Do you think that we could just call and have them come out and re-program it or something?Yeah if you still have stickers on the house or know who operated the units before, just call that company and tell them you're interested in having the units connected again.  If they're just the type that call you if the doors open but don't actually go to a monitoring company or call the police, I would suggest looking into the kind that does.  It's not very expensive at all.
