Re: Worst childhood meal?

  • My H's mom gave me a recipe to make tuna cassarole. She uses tomato soup in it! WTF? But, he loves it so I make it for him.

  • My mom used to feed us liver and tell us it was steak.  It worked til I was about 6 or 7 and could read the sticker on the package. She also made this stew like thing with chicken hearts.  I remember liking them and then one day eating one and wanting to throw up.

I loved my moms cooking. The worst I can think of is that she made something with egg noodles but paid no attention to how OLD the egg noodles wer and when she dumped them into the water a bunch of dead bugs floated to the top :S
  • She was quoting me.On Thursday they served them in my elem school.  I was usually the only one that ordered them.  That was the only day that I bought lunch because I begged my mom.I do have an affinity for the overly processed, fake foods.

  • My Grandma makes V8 stew...bleck
  • I was spared from the liver.  My parents made my older brothers eat it, but got out of the liver phase by the time I was born.  Thank god.

  • Oh, and mandy, my parents tried to make fried zucchini and tell my brothers they were french fries. They weren't fooled.

  • I don't remember ever having a truly bad meal in my house...but going on sleepovers I remember once being served a veggie burger (which I eat a lot now!).  I believe this was very early on in the evolution of grocery store veggie burgers and it had very obvious chunks of oats.  I am shocked I even tried another veggie burger!

  • Speaking of fishsticks, this isn't the worst food, actually pretty good, do you all remember the square pizza served at school?
    image
  • Thank gosh they didn't change it on us.

  • Ang - Mmm. Square pizza. When I was in school, they upgraded the the boat-shaped pizza. Good stuff.

  • ha, i forgot about school meals. the sloppy joes scared me.
  • GG, boat shaped? Awesome! The sloppy joes were always scary but I love them homemade.
    image
  • yes, homemade is a different story since you know what's in them. ::shudders::
  • ricksang, I loved school pizza. We could also get the same type at the skating rink, where all the cool kids went on Fridays. When I was 12.

Im jealous of people with school lunch meals. We didnt have a cafeteria until 9th grade, up until then we had to bring our own (i distinctly recall my mother packing me an apple sauce pac and it was so old something was growing out of it...). I miss the awesome boneless pork rib burgers my highschool cafeteria had :(
  • Nebb, I use to love those rib sandwiches...yum! Or chicken salad crossaint day
  • Oh yes, I forgot about the skating rink pizza yumm.

  • i remember being able to pile on a huge salad with lots of goodies (like sprouts! yum!) in high school for only $1.50. i wish i could buy awesome salads that cheap still.
  • Yep, nothing is cheap anymore :(
