For those who fight for our freedom since 9/11 and before!

Re: For those who fight for our freedom since 9/11 and before!

  • Oh good grief, that song always makes me cry. I had to avoid it when DH was deployed. We saw Tim in concert and when he sang this, I lost it.It's a great song though.

  • Ok I got a lil sniffly there. FI comes home in November right after I deploy.

  • Bint - What branch(es) are you and your FI with?

  • He's Army, I'm Air Force. He's finishing up a year deployment and I'll be gone for 6 months. Our schedules just happened to match up in the worst possible way.

  • I hear ya - DH and I went through that while he was in the Army and I was in college/studying abroad. It seemed like we were never in the same place! My brother is active Army too, and my cousin is AF. Thank you (and your FI) for your service. :)

  • As a Soldier this song makes me cry like a little baby.

  • I appreciate it, ggmae. Thanks to your family for serving, and to you for supporting them.

  • Like I haven't cried enough today during the memorial.  Good song for it though.  :(
  • Also, since there are other military peeps in here, have any of you been to or know someone who has been to the American Base between Ashod and Haifa in Israel?  An IDF friend works in an office there.
  • My FI is currently serving overseas. He will be back in April 2010 after a year long deployment. Thank you to everyone who supports what my FI and all of our military is doing. Also, thank you to the soldiers who have served our country in the past, who are currently serving and to those who will continue to serve our country in the future.
  • E - The memorial you speak of, was it the one that is held at Ground Zero every year- the reading of all the names?

  • Holly - I wish your FI a safe deployment. I hope that the next 7 months fly by for you!

  • Yes, a friend's cousin was reading names and then her father's note.  My former manager was also there because he lost his wife.  There is limited space for families and I have gone a few times with them because we are so close.  Even though I pass the site a lot, it always bothers me.
  • I watched the entire thing - so heartbreaking. What a day for it too - gloomy and rainy. I've only passed by the site a few times over the years, but haven't been in a while. The last time I was there, you couldn't see much through the fences and many things were pinned up along the fence.

  • They are doing a lot of construction there.  It still looks like nothing but that is because in some parts, there is still clean up.  There is a wall on the south side, this is actually a wall from the Hudson River when they built up the area.  A lot of work is being done on that part of the foundation so the whole thing doesn't sink.  I don't think it will be done any time soon.
  • On the news, they said that the entire memorial/area is scheduled to be completed by 2011. They've pushed it back a few times now, so there's no telling when it will be completed.

  • On NBC they said 2012 but I don't think it is possible.
  • I don't think so either. The report I heard said they are shooting for the 10-year anniversary, but that's a stretch.
