Serious: Anyone still up?

Re: Serious: Anyone still up?

  • LVB, do a little research.  Find out if your county/city/whatever has victim advocates.  Here, they work for the county.  If your county has a website that would be a good place to start.  An advocate would have access to all the resources she could ever need and guide her through every step.  In addition, should she decide to go to the police, they'll be there with her to make it a little less demoralizing.  Most of them are women, which might be easier for her to talk to than a man.  I wish her the best.  Nothing like this should ever happen.

  • JK, thank you so much. I will look all that up and maybe go over all of it with her, so she knows shes not in this alone.

  • Oh good, I was worried you wouldn't see this.  The advocates here are incredibly good.  They go through a ton of training and selection/interviewing is TOUGH.  It's always hard to talk to a stranger, but if the stranger is familiar with what you're going through and trained and knows how to help you, I think it makes it just a little bit easier.  Hopefully you guys have something similar and she can get some help. She should NOT have to go through this alone.

  • I am so sorry that this happened to your friend.  Being there to listen and support her is so important.  Do you think that she would consider talking to a counselor?  Someone who is trained to deal with this type of trauma might help her a lot.
