meet with your baker to arrange the design of your cake/cupcakes and to place your order?I'm about 8 1/2 months out and I'm ready to do some cake tasting!
We're doing ours on October 11th, so a little under 7 months out. But, we're also planning from OOT and have really limited time to do stuff like that.

Probably 8-9 months out. Cake tasting is fun; I was ready to put aside the stressful stuff and eat some cake! I'm glad we did, because our lady does 4-5 cakes a weekend and we were the 5th one she booked for our day.
I knew a year out that my stepmom was going to be making mine. I had had her cakes before and they were delicious. We didn't taste our flavors until about 2 months before the wedding, and they were awesome. We had lemon poppyseed and pink champagne.
I booked my cake lady over a year in advance, becuase it wouldn't be a real wedding w/o her cake! (I kid)I did the tasting and design about 11 months out, so I say go now!
We did ours 4-5 months out, and designed the cake then. My bakery allows you to change anything prior to 2 weeks of the wedding, so we had time to let the design sit with us and see if we wanted to change it. It was helpful.

We did ours about 4 months out. We live in California but were getting married in Florida, so while we were in Florida for Christmas we got it out f our way. If it were local, I probably would have waited another month or two.
We did it about 11 months out just because bakers on island are limited (book up fast) and we were not chancing bringing a cake from the cape on a ferry. It was awesome though doing all the tastings.
We did our cake tasting (my cake tasting since Fi hates sweets) in April, We'll meet with the baker in November to finalize and our wedding is December 12th.
I met with mine in the middle of July- my wedding's Oct. 24. I actually just got back to her about the design of the cake. While she had us sign the contract, give her the approx guest count, and leave a deposit at our meeting, she said she didn't really need to know the details of the cake until the month before.
I booked over a year out because she is top in my area but she said to come back about 3 months before the wedding to do tasting and design. I think you have plenty of time, but mmmmmm wedding cakes are the best!
That sounds good to me Duds. We did ours about a year out, but it was mostly because there are few people who do cake in the area we're getting married.
We get a cake with our reception package. I think we pick the flavor at our tasting, which isn't for a while. We are getting married in July.

I think we had our tasting 4 months in advance, but we were using our caterer's pastry chef. If we had "interviewed" a bunch of bakers, then we would have had the tastings sooner. I'd start tasting now if you're ready to eat some cake!
