Rep your local cuisine!

Re: Rep your local cuisine!

• Pav is from NZ! It truely is, although Sun is right about the Aussies stealing the credit, what else is new :PGood NZ food is hangi, which is food that is cooked in the ground over hot stones. I have only had it once and it was good.
• I am also a Chicago food junkie. I'd kill for a Portillo's beef sandwich and chocolate cake shake right now.But yeah, you can't beat Kansas City barbecue.  I don't even like barbecue and I love this.  It's pretty awesome.  Arthur Bryant's is the best, by far.

• Other good local KY food. . . bourbon balls (candy), beer cheese, fried banana peppers, country ham (best served hot on hot buttered biscuits). Sascha, the bourbon tours are a lot of fun!  There are tons of them.  The Kentucky Bourbon Trail  (http://www.kybourbontrail.com/#)  has a lot of info on distilleries that do tours.  I would personally recommend Labrot & Graham (they make Woodford Reserve), Makers Mark, and Buffalo Trace.  Also, any distillery/bourbon that starts with a "B" (Bakers, Bookers, etc.) is usually a good bet.  Let me know if you have questions.

• laurenclaire and I are on the same page. Fresh boiled seafood stright from the water. I am from S. LA too. Now I live in TX though, and frequent this little taqueria near my house. FI and I can both have WAY too much breakfast for like $6. And its GOOD!

• In NC, livermush.  It sounds gross, but it doesn't taste like liver, nor is is mushy.  It's pork mixed with cornmeal and sliced up and fried in a pan.  It's normally eaten for breakfast--with eggs, on a biscuit, on toast, or by itself.  It's also served for lunch on toasted bread with mustard and/or mayo.  You can only get it in NC, and for the most part, only in the western end of the state.Eastern-style BBQ, which is usually pulled pork (though it can be sliced pork, or pulled chicken) served with a vinegar-based sauce. We also have sodas that you can only get here--SunDrop, which is like Mt. Dew mixed with crack, and Cheerwine, which somewhere between Cherry Coke and plain cherry soda.  And of course, there are the Cherry-Lemon Sundrop Slushies.
• heels... Lexington BBQ... you had to go there, didn't you??? :(  Now that I can't get it, I miss it (especially the slaw).  I REALLY like Texas beef brisket, though. You can have that SunDrop. But, I'll take a Cheerwine. And some Duke's Mayo, please. I'm into my last jar.Umm let's see - I'm still trying to figure out what's regional here. Fresh corn in July/early August??????????????? I must say, I haven't had better. Cheese is good around here. I'm a cheddar person though.  Anderson-Erickson products rock. Can't find NY style pizza here - that sucks.  There's some really good steaks.

• heels... Lexington BBQ... you had to go there, didn't you???Embarrassed to say, I have not.  I go to Bubbah's every now and then.  And I'll let you in on a little secret, but don't you dare tell anyone.  I actually really like SC-style BBQ.  It's mustard-based.  There's a chain down there called Maurice's.  If you are ever in SC, you have to go, not just for the BBQ but for the, erm, cultural aspect.  (their logo includes the Confederate flag.  Yeah.  It's one of those places.)
• Dr. Pepper was invented and produced in my area.We have a ton of delicious wines.Gensee brewing company is in my area.We also have Zweigles hot dogs, the best hot dogs ever.  they make white and red hots.  Apparently white hots can only be foung in New York, although we call them Texas hots. Then there's Glazier hot dogs, which aren't at all like normal hot dogs.Garbage Plates are a big seller around here, but I don't eat mayo so I don't eat them. There's oh so much more as well.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

• I like mustard-based sauce.  Actually, I like sauce..... I liked Lexington BBQ, and I REALLY like their slaw (I hate the crap in Gastonia - can't remember the name of the place there; not sure there's even cabbage in the slaw).  I was just never a HUGE fan of it. But - I had a huge wave of homesickness over the weekend, and that reminded me of it! I've heard of Maurice's; for some reason, I was thinking some of the stores carried their sauce - maybe like Harris Teeters?  At least in Charlotte/Gastonia? I've also had Cincinnati-style chili, homemade by a Cinci boy... it was pretty good (Skyline style, maybe I should say), but not something I'd eat every day.

• don't get me started on portillo's! I'm actually not a huge fan of beef sandwiches, but I can appreciate them to a degree! FI likes cheesy beefs, I prefer them dipped with onions and hot and sweet peppers!Betrothed and anna--where are you from? I saw the food lists, but no city.Almost lunch time. Time for leftover deep dish! Then the gym. =(

• Well, I grew up in Buffalo, so of course, wings are really, really big there! Also lots of German and Polish-inspired food. There's great hot dogs, sausages, mustard and roast beef sandwiches. Good pizza, too - it's more like a pan crust than the thin crust of NYC.I live in LA now, and I can't get enough Mexican food. So good.

Apparently white hots can only be foung in New York, although we call them Texas hots.Okay, but I think the OP wants GOOD food mentioned. Genny Cream Ale doesn't fall into that category. ;-)And Sahlen's hotdogs are the best! When FI lived in NZ he knew a guy who's dad was a baker and ONLY made Pavlovas. I have no idea where he worked, but that was his job title: Pavlova maker.

• Sassy - I LOVE New Mexican food. And I don't know where you are, but I was blown away with how good every single restaurant in Santa Fe was.Sun - the US is the same way. There's little "American cuisine," but there's lots of regional stuff and dishes that have been adapted by immigrants from other places to be representative of certain areas here.

• I have to rep an Aussie food that we get here, Tim Tams. They are chocolate biscuits and they are all different kinds of awesome!
• Okay, but I think the OP wants GOOD food mentioned. Genny Cream Ale doesn't fall into that category. ;-)Zweigles are the shiit!  I'll agree with the Cream Ale statement, though.  That stuff is crap.  I swear they make it out of water right from the Genesee river.  Some of the other Genny beers aren't too bad, although since I've started drinking the microbrews I stopped drinking that.

• I'm in Albuquerque, but I haven't had a meal in Santa Fe I didn't like. The day my FI brought me up to propose, we had green chile tamales for lunch. I could have died. Then we had steak for dinner. I could have died then too. After he proposed later on, I decided I should hold off on a food related death.
Night swimming in the ocean= pretty sweet reception!
