I totally understand your dilemma, as my husband and I did the same at our wedding. Definitely put something on your website indicating that you're having an adult only reception. It's YOUR wedding and if people are going to be mad or annoyed or pissed off at you because of the decision, then let them. It's your and your fiance's day, no anyone else's. They should respect your wishes to celebrate. Another option we used was the babysitter. We were fortunate enough to have a separate room at our venue and offered to hire a babysitter for anyone planning on bringing their children. You can also recommend a babysitter to come to their room if they have to bring their children due to travel. Keep in mind that there are going to be people who bring their kid, even if they say they aren't. Be prepared incase this does happen. Something else that may happen is that people whose feather's get ruffled may not come. You have to decide if it's more important for them to be there, or to have their kid there. I know it's a tough decision, but keep in mind these people are going to celebrate your special day, and it should be everything YOU want it to be Good luck!

In response to Jen and Mark's comment, We were told we had the medium sized room at our venue. We were excited for the place and date and it was perfect and we were set. Then they informed us while the lady who booked us was on vacation, they had booked the medium sized room, and we were to be left with the small one. A little inconvience on my guest list was more than worth it instead of giving up the perfect date and the perfect venue. I am not complaining. It is an incovenience to have this issue, but manageable. I am simply asking for advice on how to inform people of the situation.
