Wedding planner?

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone used or is going to use a wedding planner. And do you think its necessary or beneficial to use one or is it a waste of money?

Re: Wedding planner?

  • I didn't have a wedding planner, but I had a day of coordinator. She helped keep things organized and running smoothly.
  • I planned everything myself with limited help from anyone else with exception of my husband.  Everything went great.  No major glitches.  I am a control freak sometimes so I preferred to know what was going on at all times.

  • I'm not using a wedding planner, but I did just hire a DOC.  It'll be worth it when I'm not worrying about the vendors or setting anything up/breaking down.

  • I have a DOC, but I can call her and harass her as much as I need to up until the wedding.  It has been helpful because she has given me lots of suggestions for vendors and helped me get lower prices on things.  She has also given me ideas of things I can do.  She will coordinate the rehearsal.  She confirms with all of the vendors, and makes sure everything gets set-up.  She is handling everything the day of.  If something goes wrong either her or her assisstant handles it.  I don't want to think about anything but marrying my FI on our wedding day, and I don't want my friends or family to have to deal with crap the day of the wedding.  I think it is well worth the money!
  • I did it all myself. I had some help with picking the venue, my dress, etc from DH and my family/friends, but all the phone calls, payments, purchases, scheduling, details, etc...that was all me. It was stressful, but certainly not the most stressful thing I've ever done - so it was manageable. If you have the budget for a wedding planner, I'm sure it will make your life easier. But if not, you'll be fine without one.

  • I'm not hiring one but my aunt is pretty much doing all of the things I would want one to do for the day of.  As far as before the wedding day, I think unless you are having a very elaborate party with a lot of small details it is manageable by yourself.  I wouldn't say it's ever a "waste" of money, because that person would presumably be helpful but it's definitely not necessary.

  • I vote yes ;) More details in the thread from yesterday that was posted.
  • I thought about using a wedding planner, but I did everything a wedding planner would do.Then I thought about a DOC but then the reception hall (hotel) said that they set everything up and make sure everything is there on time. The DJ is the one to make sure that everything is done in a timely matter. The entrance, cake cutting, the garter & bouquet toss, the dances, etc.So, there really isnt a need for a wedding planner, if you  have a DJ that has experience in weddings. So, we arent going with one.Good Luck!
