Re: F 'rrybody

  • TR it is possible to be MORE allergic to some cats than others. It depends on how much of the allergen is in their particular saliva.

I have a friend who is really allergic to cats. Around my old cat she was totally fine but around another friend's cat it's like her whole face would immediately swell up and her eyes would water.

  • TR, your body can also become accustomed to your own cat but be ambushed with allergies by another cat.  I had my cat for 20 years and was not allergic to her (although I did notice I'd get sniffly after we'd been gone from the house on vacation or something).

A few years after she died, I got 2 cats and had to go to the emergency room for asthma/allergy attacks.   No amount of allergy medication afterwards could allow me to keep those sweet cats, and I tried for months and months on pills, a daily inhaler, everything.
  • Good info on the cats, ladies, thanks! :)  I'll take some meds before I go over next time.  They're cute as the dickens, but cleaning out those damn litter boxes reminds me why I didn't get another cat after my last one.
