[QUOTE]Because I'm a dork. I would like to use letters from our names to spell our kids names and neither of us have an O but we have a Y. Like for a middle name I was thinking Shey (SH from the first two letters of my first name and EY from the last two letters of FI's last name). I never thought that sounded like a crazy thing to do but I bet you ladies will. Oh well.

This makes no sense when presumably the kid is going to have the same two letters at the end of their last name too.

[QUOTE]Please don't spell your daughter's name like that. It's horrible. My aunt's name is Irish. I always thought that was interesting. FI has a cousin named Ruby Jewel.

I love the name "Ruby" that was my Grandma's best friend's name. She was such a fun lady. The name suited her.

I would really, really like to name my daughter Vivian Rose, but everybody in the family flips out with the "ZOMG that's SOOOO old fashioneeeeeeeeeeed!!!111" when I throw it out there. Noodle wants to name our son Rex Stone.

If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat. image

• I meant EY from the last two letters of his first name, not last. oops.

Won't be prego for at least a year, so there's plenty of time to think about it.

I actually kind of like that. Then again, I don't have to deal with being Ruby Jewel, so....

I had another Aunt named Dorothy, but she went by Dot. She married a guy named Austin but he went by Red. So together they were Red Dot.

• ohwhynot - care to share said kids' odd names?

Well at least you have a "thought process" behind it. Just remember your kid has to live with their name forever.

I was two seconds from getting on the "y" bus but was swiftly talked off the ledge and so SO SO happy I was. I considered, Madyson and Kendyl. Yep. ..::facepalm::.... I went completely away from Madison because 18 of her classmates will surely have the same name, spelled 6 different ways.
• Oh why not, I think female and ABCDE, are the aforementioned L-a are in fact real, along with Chlamydia or whatnot. I doubt that evabee has personally encountered them, but you'd be surprised at what people have named their children.
• Vivian rose is very pretty! I love old fashioned names. Roslyn Mae is a front runner if we have another girl.
• I have a friend named Red. Her given name is J. Red B____ (equally strange last name), but her husband's last name is Tripp. Its a weird name all around and she thinks her parents were smoking way too much when they named her (her words, not mine).

I think Vivian Rose is lovely.

• Nugs, my cousin's nieces are named Ruby Rose and Georgia Gail. I'm sure people think that's old fashioned too, but I personally love them. I guess it helps that the girls are obnoxiously adorable.
• Its just hard to take someone seriously with such a ridiculous looking name.

I feel bad for all those babies with the names like "Kylsea" (yep, I've seen that one) and "Loegyn" (yep, that one too)

My mother had a Female in her class. That one is true.

I also know a girl named Taqueria. To me, that's a place to get good mexican food. She pronounces it ta Query a.

• I'm sorry that no one seems to believe me about L-ia. I don't have any proof for you, but I can see why you all are skeptical, haha. I just googled it and "ledasha" is on there as a kind of racist joke. I don't know what else to say other than maybe that's what gave her mom the idea. Never met the girl, just graded her paper. Maybe it's really pronounce like "Leah" and my cousin was just F-ing with me. Who knows! Sorry to have twisted a few panties :)
• My great aunt's name was Dorothy, but for some reason she went by Naunie her entire life.

Agreed. 100%.
• Fi told me about a girl he met named Aquanetta the other day. I immediately wondered if she was named after the hairspray.

• Nugs, I think Vivian Rose is absolutely gorgeous as well. If I have a girl, I'd like to name her Hazel Marie, after both of my grandmothers. I'm scared my child won't think Hazel is a good name though and that she'll get teased endlessly.

• My MOH is a social worker and she has come across some awesome ones. One of her cases the mom has 2 sons, Damien LaGangsta & Marcus DaPimp- dead serious.

Also she had a woman whose name was "La-a".... guess how it was pronounced???? LaDasha!!!!!!!

On a less ghetto note I have a family member who goes by Toni because her name is Clifftona, not a pretty name we spoken aloud....

I like Hazel. Don't worry though, I like the name Lucy and I know about 3 people with pets named Lucy.

• In college, there was a Poquetta. I will never forget that name. Ever. Also, there was a Tequila (I have never met this person, but she dated a friend's ex). Someone named their child, L'Oreal. But added extra apostrophes, L'Or'eal. Nice.
• Also, my fiance's given name is Jason T Parks.... as in no full middle name, just the letter "T" which gets really fun to explain on formal documents.....

• Eva - see Goldens post above - EVERYONE says this same exact story anytime we talk about names. It has lost the "shock" value and for SO many people knowing someone who knows a L-a - nobody actually knows one.

It's fishy.
• Shelly, my mom wanted to name me Sadie, like hardcore. My grandmother flipped out and told her that's a dog's name. Turns out I know way more people with dogs named Sadie than I know people named Sadie.

• Shelleydiane, I was going to write "I love Lucy!" and then I realized that sounds funny. But I do love the name Lucy.

LC: Hazel is lovely, I think. Judging from my children's classmates, names like Ruby, Hazel, Vivian, Evelyn, etc. are popular right now (or were 7-10 years ago, when their classmates were born).

Evabee: sorry to snap at your post; I was rude and I apologize.
• Shelley - LUCY is awesome! I love that name. Lil Stacks name is my middle name and Mr Stacks middle name and so we thought if we had another girl we'd name her both of our mom's middle names

Lucille Ruth. OR Ruth Lucille - however, if we called them by the nicknames - Ruthie or Lucy - either way we'd have 2 of the 7th Heaven gang going on. I think it was a fun idea for a few minutes, but decided against it.
• I openly judge people with useless Ys in their names. It's not right, but I do. I requested a different party rental agent after mine quit and was replaced with Lynsy or someshit right before the wedding. The smiley face in her professional email sig was the other reason I wanted a new rep, but the name Lynsy was enough for me.

My grandfather was Gudger. WTF names their kid that, whatever the year was?
