Each guest is getting their own escort card (which will indicate their entree choice)...for the Mrs...is it proper etiquette to put:
Mrs. Joe Schmoe
or
Mrs. Sally Schmoe
FMIL said that using the later would indicate that she's a widow...so I just wanted to double check that Mrs. Joe Schmoe (I guess really it'd be Joseph, lol) is correct.
I'm considering the ceremony/reception to be semi-formal.
TIA
Re: Escort Cards for Mrs.
I don't know - "Mrs. Joe Schmoe" looks weird to me. it's fine if it's "Mr. & Mrs. Joe Schmoe" - but that is personal taste not proper etiquette
Personally, I wouldn't be looking for my husband's name, I would be looking for my own. I think it would simply be easier to use the woman's first name.

[QUOTE]Personally, I don't think I'm using titles. I addressed my invitations formally (Mr. and Mrs. John Smith), but I think for escort cards I'm doing "Susan Smith" and "John Smith". It seems like less of a headache and I don't think people will take offense. Especially since the last family wedding of FI's we went to, they didn't have assigned tables/escort cards.

This.
Also I'm not sure of the "Mrs. Sally Schmoe" indicating a widow. My grandmothers are both widows, and I address all of their cards: Mrs. John Smith. It may be a generational thing.

however, if you have a married couple where the bride kept her name, i would not do Mrs. Sally Schmoe, but rather Ms. Sally Schmoe, since "Mrs." signifies she's married to a man with the last name Schmoe. and actually, "Ms." is always acceptable although some married women really like Mrs.
