Sadface.

I ordered a custom headpiece -- a little fascinator hat with feathers and a birdcage veil -- from an Etsy seller with a well-established shop and excellent feedback.

I just received it in the mail and it looks AWFUL.   The seller glued the fabric to the top of the hat frame.  It has jagged edges (since she didn't bother to fold the fabric over the edges of the frame and glue it underneath) and creases and bumps from uneven gluing.  I am SO sad right now.  SO SAD.

... OK, in the grand scheme of things, it's just a hat.  But, still!  I was looking forward to getting this for the last two months and now I wish I had saved myself the $120 and made it myself.  I can't sew, but damn it, I CAN GLUE.

I'm not posting the name of the seller yet because I want to give her a chance to make things right; I just had to vent.

  • That sucks.  You're right, its just a hat, but holy crap $120!  I can glue things together for you if you're willing to pay that!

  • Same thing happened to me, except with my DH's custom tie that I had made on Etsy. It was so bad! I left poor feedback for the seller, and she offered to make another one or give me a refund. I chose the refund and then deleted the comment since she was concerned about it.

Shellydiane - I know. :(  But the design was so pretty and it was still a good $30 less than the one in the bridal shop.  I got kind of carried away.

FutureMrsDudly - I'm sorry to hear about the tie, but glad your selller ultimately made things right!

  • Celles, that totally sucks!  I'm sorry :(

Dudley, I'm getting custom ties from etsy, do you mind naming names?  You can PM me if you want, obviously.
  • I am a seller on etsy, and I would urge you not to be so secretive about these bad sellers. Bad sellers are the ones who make us good sellers look bad and turn people away from buying handmade. I would hate for people to keep stumbling over the same bad seller because someone didn't want to name names.

Jenellsrevenge - I hear you!  I refrained from posting her name since I wanted to give her a chance to make things right.  If she doesn't, then I'll have no compunctions whatsoever about identifying her -- here, or elsewhere.

  • I had the same issue on Etsy with my bouquet.  I don't like it at all and the seller was really rude when I asked for changes.  It was $175 and I had to fix it myself  (additional $40 in supplies) and I'm only 'ok' with it.
For my headpiece with a different seller I wasn't happy with what was delivered and she was fabulous to rework the changes.   So just ask and see their response!
I was surprised they could put feedback on Buyers too.
