How much to tip the banquet manager?

Hey girls,

I feel like I have asked this before, but I always forget and really am unsure about it, but how much should we tip our banquet manager? Thanks!

  • At the country club where we are having our ceremony and reception, there is a man who is the banquet manager.  He has helped us organize the small details of our wedding and he oversees that everything runs accordingly and I know that it is customary to tip at the end of the evening.  I'm not sure how much is appropriate.

  • I would think that the service charge and gratuity that you pay to the facility covers her as well.

    But I'm not sure.

  • Ditto PP, that's not someone I would think to tip.  Usually tips are for people in service positions who provide exceptional service.

We tipped ours about $700?  Can't really remember but it was up there.

He was not just the manager, but the coordinator as well.  Plus there was a very strong tropical storm hit on our wedding day, last mintue change of plans, the tent collapsed the morning of, I could go on but you get the idea.   Point being he went over and above to make our beach wedding a big success even though we were in the middle of almost a hurricane in a place that does not get these types of storms.

I guess it would depend on how much they did.  We were OOT so ours did a lot of work.  Yours might only show up the day of.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I guess we will use our judgement then.  We like him a lot and he has helped us immensely.  I know he will be a great help on our day :) Thanks girls.

  • We're from Jersey and our venue told us the average was about $300, so we did a little more.

Did you try asking on your local? They might have a better idea of what's normal at your venue, especially other girls who were married there.
  • I am from LI, but my local board is sort of dead.  I know its normal to tip here so I think we may do around $300.
