whaleflipflops- we don't have many options here.  A grocery store run is long overdue.  We don't feel like going to the store right now though cause it's raining.

Cool. Do you like it over there? Your FI must be in the military. Most people I have talked to that have lived over there that were from the States really liked it.

I pretty much live in flip flops for 9 months out of the year. I have a deep and passionate love of all things preppy and whale. When I got my first pair of Vineyard Vines (their logo is a whale) flip flops, I became obsessed and wore them everywhere until I pretty much wore them into the ground, and they became my "thing" so my best friend started calling me whaleflipflops that summer.

Evening ladies! I'm ready for the holidays to be over and get back to the normal bump and grind of everything. I'm tired of people freaking out over snow and making the grocery store I work at a nightmare.

I hear you Ciara. We got all of our groceries last week for Christmas, but I still have to go back this week for a few things we forgot.

I am ready for them to be over as well. It just hasn't been the same the past few years without family and friends. I know I have my H and all, but it is just hard. I just want it to be January so we can go home and see them all.

Get some rest, put your feet up and relax.

Oh, it is pretty, but you can see everything there is to do there in about three days.  Long expensive way to go to be entertained for three days max.

Yes we do. Last year was a bad winter, much worse than expected, and apparently the entire country just ran out salt! We have been advised by a friend who works at the Exchange on base to stock up on a few buckets while they have it. It's 4:15am here so they wouldn't plow it now. I don't know if it will be different for the highways- but at least in the villages, I would be surprised if they did get plowed. Sunday is sacred in Germany. The entire country shuts down to the point where it is actually illegal to wash your car on a Sunday. The only things open here on Sundays are gas stations (limited hours) and some bars and restaurants. For the most part, museums and zoos stay open on Sunday AFAIK, but I don't see a government employee having to come in on a Sunday here. It's just not done.

    Hehehehe...welcome to Europe.

When we lived in France we were suprised at how much WAS open on Sundays.  The world rolled up it's carpets between 1 and 3 in the afternoon every day (as in can't even get a cup of coffee closed up).

Western Australia is even worse.  It's illegal for retailers to be open past 6 PM M-F and past 1 PM on Saturdays unless you are a Mom-N-Pop conveience ($$$$) store or gas station.  They have late night trading on Thursdays until 8 PM.

Fiance was stationed in England before Germany. In England, a store can only be open for a maximum of 6 hours on Sunday. I always got a giggle out of seeing signs for the 24 hour stores that advertised Sunday hours as 12-6.

When we were in Switzerland about a month and a half ago, we saw a lot of stores with limited hours. One chocolate shop was only open from like 12-2. We wondered why even bother opening the store at that point? But we came back at noon for our chocolates, so I guess that answered that question.

<div>It's funny because if we get a ton of people, they won't leave until 3am, so we'll be up late and hung over in the morning. And if we don't get a lot of people, we'll be doing a lot of drinking ourselves and still be hung over tomorrow. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" /></div><div>
</div><div>There's a brunch about an hour away that we want to go to. It's a "brewery brunch" at a restaurant where they bring in a local brewer and serve hard-to-find beer. They're serving 2 old Christmas beers we've been looking for tomorrow, but getting up at 8 to be in Whittier by 10 might not be so appealing.</div>
