Speaking of Kindle....vacation reads?

Re: Speaking of Kindle....vacation reads?

  • T, I just bought Delirium by Lauren Oliver.  I haven't read it yet but I like what I see from the reviewssss.  Alix gave it 5 stars so I think I'll be obsessed.

  • Haha I know, I was so mad when I finished the 3rd one and realized it was a to be continued basically.  Especially since we probably have to wait a whole year before the 4th comes out.  I had a hard enough time waiting a week for the 3rd one to be released, and the 2nd didn't even end in a cliffhanger.

Pink- if TR doesn't want your Water for Elephants, can i borrow it?

  • I haven't read the Wings book yet but I think I'll start it next now!

  • sophie Kinsella has books under her real name: Gemma Townley.

I've read "Little White Lies", "when in Rome" and "the importance of being married"

Other good light hearted chick lit I've read and enjoyed

    - Chasing Harry Winston and Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberger
    - Confessions of a Shoe Addict and Shoe addicts anonymous which go together.  I think SAA is first... by Beth Harbison

I have so many of them at home, I'll have to look.

  • There's a faerie book I'm reading now, a YA book called Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr.  It's also the first of three (or maybe more, now; I'm not following Melissa's LJ actively anymore).

  • DNB - I read WFE so it's all yours :)  And I think I'll have enough to get me through for awhile, haha.  Now I'm buying books for next month!

  • Snowflower and the Secret Fan was relatively horrible. HORRIBLE.

I have all geared up to go: Divergent, The Shack, City of Ashes (even though I didn't really like City of Bones, I've started the series so now I must finish), and I'm trying to find some good ones, too.

You know what else is just not good? The David Sedaris books you people told me to read. OMG. Horrible.

  • Yeah, I've started it, and I'm not like...OMG so good, but it's better than some of the other books I've been reading lately.

NOT THAT THERE IS MUCH COMPETITION.

<div>Really?  I have never once thought anything but good about him.  I actually have thought to myself many times how I'm Team David, I just didn't know anyone else who read the series to talk about it with.  Now that you brought it up I could definitely see them writing him as a troll or something, but I really hope they don't.  </div>

  • See, now I really want to read this series, but I WILL ALSO BE SO MAD IF THEY DONT FINISH THE SERIES.

    I'm so torn.

<div>Haha no worries.  I'm just so excited to have someone (and hopefully more people soon) to talk about it with!</div>

  • TR - I don't know if any of these are the Zombie book you were talking about, but:

    World War Z
    Breathers: A Zombie's Lament
    Pride and Prejudice & Zombies
    Het Madden, A Zombie Perspective

I also listed a bunch of books over on SB, but they are probably not your style, based on what you listed above. They are more crime/thriller novels.

I felt the same way.  I couldn't even finish it because it just got too...weird? Not a fan.

  • Which series Fishster?  I thought you didn't like fantasy type stuff?

Beach, I'll PM you so we can have a little convo about them.  Did you know that fucking MILEY CYRUS is tapped to play Laurel?!?! WTF?
  • WINGS! I don't think I will, and then I DO. IT'S BIZARRE.

But I don't like the city of bones stuff...but I thought I would.

    I suck at books.

  • Definitely read it Fish.  I'm not a Twilight fan and loved this series.

Seriously Snips I will boycott the movies if it's Miley Cyrus.  She is NOTHING like Laurel is described in the books.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Miley Cyrus??  WTF?  Laurel is supposed to be kind of ethereal and graceful and Miley is crass and redneck.

  • Fishy what genre of books do you like?  Those Who Save Us might have been the best book I read this year.  It's a book about the Holocaust told through a German's perspective.  I am a stickler for Holocaust books though.

  • Fish, give it a shot.  If I could lend it, I would. You'll like them, and they're super fast reads.

And yeah, that's what I said too.  Miley is NOT Laurel.  in the least.

Has anyone looked at the new Erik Larson book? He's the author who wrote Devil in the White City. This one is called In the Garden of Beasts. It's a family who settles in Germany in 1933 as America's Ambassador to Germany. Like his other books, he interweaves history with salacious fiction, like the White City.
I'm kind of thinking it's a hardback purchase.

I take this back. It is ALL nonfiction. The characters are people who existed, he just writes in a way that is entrancing.

  • As for books I like? I've been surprising myself lately.

Two Kisses for Maddy is just...oh so good. SO. GOOD.

I am kind of a sucker for non-fiction, but I've read stuff this year that I never thought I'd like, and I've LOVED It.
