XP: Disney Fun for Adults?

Re: XP: Disney Fun for Adults?

  • I would do the cruise over the theme parks.  They're a little more "adult friendly" and just sound like a lot more fun to me.  But I cannot stand Disney.  We last went when I was in college, and I swore never again.

We do our Florida vacation every year in August.  It's hot and sticky, but it's really not any worse than Texas/Mexico.  It's pretty bad when you're dehydrated and standing in an hour long ride in the sun with 108302942 kids and the only beverage option is regular coke, but if you're sitting by the pool or in the shade, it's fine.
  • My mom and sis would be ELATED with that trip.  They're Disney-a-holics, I tell 'ya.  Me, personally - I've been to Disney a bunch.  And I'm not going back till I have a child who can appreciate it, because I'm Disney'd OUT.  I could MAYBE deal with the cruise.  Maybe 1 day at EPCOT.  But after that I'd be done.  I'd do the water parks, or Universal, but NO MAGIC KINGDOM.  I'm getting hives just thinking about it.  Ugh.

I used to feel like Fische said - basically, I'd rather poke my eyes out than spend time at a Disney park.  But then FI invited me on vacation with his family to meet all of them.  They like WDW but aren't obsessed with it, and had been waiting to go back until FI's niece was old enough to have fun.

We went for a week, arriving late Saturday and leaving the next Saturday afternoon.  We stayed in a WDW resort, and had our main park tickets for Monday-Friday, then added on the Sunday before and Saturday after for really cheap.

To be honest, I was bored with the park and Disney in general after 2 days, but it was really fun to hang with the kiddo.  I was the only one who'd go on rides with her as FI's family wussed out, so that was a nice bonding experience.  So, yeah, 5 days should be plenty!

Also, ditto Mrs.B on Epcot - we arrived on the last day of this international wine & food festival (November), and that was probably the best part!

On the weather, I wouldn't go in August.  (I didn't see when you were going, but someone mentioned August.)  I went to a conference in Orlando in August a year or so before our WDW trip, and it was so freaking humid and hot that I literally didn't leave the hotel except for coming and going.  I'm not used to humidity, though, so how much it would bother you depends on your tolerance for it.

  • I definitely think Disney can be fun for adults.  Epcot, Universal Studios and Animal Kingdom are all fun to go to (with options for enjoying a few cocktails).  I vote yes Smile

  • I went in August of last year with my sister and best friend, and we had a blast. It was three days, and we did plenty. The one thing about the miserable weather is that crowds were not bad at any park. We rarely waited more than 15 minutes for any ride, and they stayed open really late so we did a lot after the sun went down.
  • You could also check into a day at Sea World and Discovery Cove - you can swim with the dolphins and stingrays there (there's an extra fee, but it's worth it). There's a lazy river at DC, and I think a water park is connected.

J and I met up with my parents, my brother, SIL, and 4 y/o nephew at Disney last May. J doesn't like Disney in general (marketing, etc), but he enjoyed Tower of Terror and the Aerosmith RocknRollercoaster, along with the Stunt Show. We did enjoy some of the classic rides at Magic Kingdom and it's the only park all 7 of us went to together (he'lll begrudgingly admit it). I thought he'd propose there, but he didn't.

One word of warning:  Andy was TERRIFIED of the characters when he saw them for real. They did a character dinner and when Goofy came to the table, he hid under it, shaking, the rest of the night. There's something about the larger than life, moving figures (the heads  and gloves for him), especially if the are scared of Santa/Easter Bunny, etc.

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I had been to Disney as a kid and didn't find it that thrilling, so I wasn't extremely happy when Dh was pushing for our honeymoon there (he had never been).
I had a lot more fun there as an adult verses a kid. We spent 5 days in the parks and definitely could have gone back for more. The biggest thing we found was taking advantage of the after hours and going later in the evening when most of the kids had already conked out.
Also we took a ferry from Animal Kingdom to...Grand Floridian I think? It was a lot of fun.
  • Depends on the time of year. I went for 4 days in July and it was 90 degrees everyday. Sucked! If you have a choice, go in January or around that time. Weather was nice this January. Otherwise, I do enjoy Disney. 12 days would let you take your time and not rush from line to line to get everything done. You could do 1 park for 2 days each maybe. Rides one day and shows the next. I like all the parks except MGM Studios. That one is boooring.
