First off let me say that I know that tiered receptions are considere bad etiquette, but I have been asked by a few people I work with about this so I figured I would ask the experts.
I work in retail, in a small mall and I'm work friends with about 80% of the other mall employees. I have invited co-workers from both the stores I work in, and a handful of the girls I am closest to and socialize with outside work. Lately, some of the others have been asking if we're planning on inviting people from the mall just to the dance, since they would like to come but they know since the wedding is on a Saturday, they wouldn't be able to attend until after the meal was over anyway, since our mall is open till 8pm on Saturdays. FI and I were invited to a reception like this last summer.
So, what do you think? Have a tiered reception with roughly 40 people invited just to the dance, or stick to the original plan and invite just the ones we are closest to?
