Baptist Wedding ( etiquette, traditions, dress)

I was invited to a Baptist Wedding.  I have never been to a Baptist church and would like to know if there are any traditions for the guests. What is proper dress etiquette for a late afternoon ceremony.  I would like to be respectful to the bride and groom.

I'm a baptist and I didn't even get married in a church.  It really depends on the church, but our church is really casual.

I would say a nice summer dress that is a little longer if you are concerned (knee length is appropriate, but a little higher like low thigh down is fine) and if it is strapless, bring a wrap or a jacket in case the A/C is cranked.  Formality depends on the invitations.  Nothing different or special unless the church itself requires something different, and if it does, it would be stated somewhere for the guests to know.

  • I would wear a sundress that comes at least to my knees, and maybe a cardigan/cami depending on how the top of the dress is made just to be safe.

  • Agreed - my uncle is our officiant and he is a Baptist minister - we have no special rules etc.

We also have attended other baptist weddings in a church and its pretty much the same as any other Christian wedding.

  • It really depends on how orthodox or lax the church is.  For my all of my cousins weddings (although I was between 12-18 for all of them) I wore knee length dresses with higher necklines and caardigans.  However, as others have said, some churches are much more relaxed.

When in doubt, I tend to go a little more conservative rather than not.
