Cake Testing

Hi Everyone,

I am planning cake testings for next week and I am trying to decide who to bring with me. I am definitely bringing my fiance and one of my bridesmaids, and I am trying to decide if it's polite or rude to bring another bridesmaid with me. Is it rude to have 4 people for cake testing, or do you think that's okay? Thank you!

Tracy

Re: Cake Testing

  • How many is the baker okay with? I have never heard of anyone taking more than their FI, or a parent if they're interested. I would expect that your baker might be surprised to have a bunch of people show up.

Will the baker even allow that many people? I haven't looked into cake tasting yet (and I actually hate cake so it will be more like cake looking for me) but the caterers I've talked to only allow you to bring one guest.

Edit: And by one guest I meant bride +1. Not couple +1.
  • Did they tell you how many you could have?  We didn't do a cake testing because my aunt made it, but our menu tasting we were allowed to have 4 people total.

  • This makes me think of the scene in The Wedding Singer when there's several of them tasting cake, and they're all standing in a row, and they feed a bit of cake to the person behind them, while the awesome 80's song is playing.
    That is all.
  • That seems like a lot of people to me. Two of the cake tastings H couldn't be with me, so I brought him some of the sample home. MIL went with me to one of them. One my Mom & Dad went with me for.
  • I'd call and ask.  Some bakeries won't care, but some might.  We actually had 4 people, me and my DH and his parents.
  • It was only allowed to be FI and me at our tasting, so be sure to check with your baker.

Also, don't bake a huge 13 lb 8"x8"x8" Companion Cube (it's from a video game called Portal) for a friend who is going away the night before such that the sight of cake makes you sick.  I'm pretty sure my insides we're coated with a combination of confectionate sugar and corn starch for weeks after that from the sheer amount that was in the air. • Check with your baker- we are actually having 7 people for one of ours... we are living out of state but having the wedding where majority of our family lives so wanted to include both parents and the MOH in the tasting since they can't be involved in a lot of the other things simply due to location.

Our baker was more so worried about me than the amount of people- she asked if I realized that meant I would be getting 6 other opinions all at the same time and it could make it stressful.
