Are you still alive?

Re: Are you still alive?

  • Good.  We got plates and a dust buster off the wedding registry.  I am a little concerned though that I haven't registered for enough stuff now that people are actually going to start buying wedding presents.

  • Sucrets, do you plan to tell everyone what the baby will be called before he/she is born?

We had friends who had such frustrations in negative reactions from family about their first born's name, that for the second baby they refused to tell anyone what he would be called. Admittedly, though, their names were Jett (for a girl) and Jax (the boy), so they were a little odd.

<div>That seems so weird to me.  If everyone hates the names, maybe rethink them.</div>

We probably will.  Right now I've been pretty vague when people ask us about names, but that's mainly because we don't have specific things narrowed down!  Hopefully what we pick won't be too weird, lol.

Oh, and DH recently told me that he'd really like a boy to have the middle name Allen because that's his and his father's.  Well, thanks for letting me know that in advance, bud.

My sister had the same problem. The names that I can remember that people talked her out of were actually more common than the name she ended up giving her son (Kai). She told me, and the week before he was born she did tell my parents, but no one else.

Sucrets the belly rubbing is definitely worse with people you know. I think it was only one random stranger. A lot of people that I sort of know, like people I used to know, would run into somewhere, and they'd freak out about the pregnancy and immediately reach for my belly. Weirdos. I have never (no matter how excited I was for them) felt the urge to rub my friends bellies.

Happy days, I got a gold medal!

    haha.

And yes, it was sort of weird, but I guess that if you come from a normal family and want to name your children odd things, you're going to get some negative feedback. In any case, though I don't think it's just 'unique' names that get bad feedback. I mentioned that we love the name Adelaide to a couple of people; one of them joked that everyone would think we'd conceived the child in the place called Adelaide (hello, it was a person's name before it was a place!), and h's sibling made some remark about it being weird. It's a very traditional name of German origin. I don't see what is weird about it!

  • I think Adelaide is adorable.  Calling a girl Jett is not adorable.

  • Okay, so I've been plagued by the fact that I rubbed my friend's belly 2 years ago.  In my defense, we're pretty good friends but since we moved we only see them a few times a year.

Well, I went home to do wedding stuff and went up to my old school to see the show and saw her - apparently she had just popped.  I completely automatically did 'the rub' and then felt so weird and dirty.  I don't think she cared, but it's bothered me to this day.  I can't be THAT person, you know??

  • My friend's dog is named Jett...

Adelaide is adorable, but I would forever be singing music from Guys & Dolls.

Between musical theater and being a teacher, this name thing SUCKS.

  • Haha sucrets, you are too funny! I doubt she even remembers now. She probably had so many people touch her belly by that point that she was over caring!
  • Haha Sucrets, she probably didn't even care! Maybe I was the pregnant freak that didn't like it.

  • I think I apologized right after and she said it was cool.  Who knows, but we're still friends so hopefully she didn't hold it against me.  ;)

Alright, it might be bedtime for me.  Almost 1:30 here!

    Goodnight (afternoon?), ladies!

lol, just be warned if you go and see it someday!  She's not a bad character at all, but there's a song called "Adelaide's Lament".  And she speaks with a squeaky, brooklyn accent.

  • I'm not dead.  Other than my visit to the gym, I've been laying around all day because it is coooooold (21 F) outside.  I'm watching "The West Wing" and eating chinese delivery.
