Period relief question.. not TMI

I was watching TV today and a clip came on the news about a break-through in menstrual cramp relief that would be discussed on the night time news. I was very intrigued, but stupid me missed the news and forgot to tape it, and now I have no idea what this thing is. It's also not on the news station's website.
The little highlight clip had a woman holding some device and promising that there will be no more period cramps if you wear it / use it the day before your period. She said it's better than heat.
Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Has anyone used this contraption or know the name of the product?

Birth control pill? Lol, that's the only thing that worked to get rid of my cramps! ;)

    There's also Vicodin.

Edited for spelling, cause I'm on drugs.

  • Yeah I've never had cramps since I went on the pill however many years ago. Knock on wood.

  • I barely get cramps even not on the pill. My period also only lasts like 2 and a half days. It's pretty awesome.

  • You all suck!!! Getting on the pill just put my cramps more into the "normal" range.
  • Stella. I will google this. WE MUST FIND IT!

  • Yeah, seriously, I could use this like... right this second. Because I have such bad cramps at this moment that I could punch someone. Good thing H is late coming home from work.

    This part frightens me:

Note: People with pacemakers must not receive TENS treatment.
    image
  • That frightened me too kiki.

I'm skeptical of this. I think i would understand it more if they said it helped to relax your uterus as opposed to "stoping the pain cycle." You're in pain because your uterus is retracting, am I right?
  • This thing also reminds me of what my chiropractor put on my back to help relieve pain. It didn't do much for me.
  • There are some days I'd cut my lower half off to make it feel better, so a little electricity ain't nuthin' for this chick.

  • I think it stops the receptors of pain. A lot of women in labor use TENS apparently. I haven't found any reviews for cramps, just for women in labor who seem to say it generally helped a bit.

  • Hmm that's interesting. I hope they can come up with something good by the time I stop taking BCP because I don't know if I can deal with the full onslaught of Aunt Flo like I did in high school.

Yeah, literally your uterus is cramping from contracting to, uh, push. Like when you're in labor but less so. Which is why people say labors pains are like period cramps time 1,000.

  • I've used a similar thing for helping with pain from a shoulder injury. The one I have says very strictly never to use it across your stomach area or chest, or you could cause serious damage. Yes, exercising the muscles helps, but sticking on a Bengay patch and going for a light jog doesn't sound as dangerous...
