Oh hai morning

Re: Oh hai morning

  • I've already told H our next bed will be a king-sized Tempurpedic. He flails in his sleep, and he likes to sleep in the middle of the bed.
Midge you have a brother right? How are they with him and what sort of life does he live.
    Posted by Stackeye210
He dropped out of college, says he wants to go back but slacks off about it and only works part time as our church custodian. He helps with the youth group at church and plays video games.

He only has one friend he'll go hang out with by himself and all of his other friends are mutual friends of ours, which is fine. We get along very well and always have so this has never been an issue.

He's a major penny-pincher, so he has tons of savings, which is great, but the church custodian job does not pay enough to live off of. At all.

I don't even care what he does college or not, but he needs to make a decision y'know? He's a lot like one of our cousin's who spent a year in West Virginia on a volunteer farm helping people in the Appalachia region. My cousin and I think he would LOVE that but we can't convince him to give it a try. He's too much of a homebody.

So basically, he's a homebody and doesn't really want to leave. Therefore, there's no conflict about that.
Spa - that's a good point. My boss wants it to be peer-based,but I'm not sure we've thought the whole thing through. It's for our operations side, so maybe we can look into creating some sort of committee. Who knows. We've also incorporated a cowbell for the sake of morale boosting. Don't ask.

  • Random question, but do you usually tip at places like coffee shops, ice cream places, etc.? I usually only do it if I'm a regular customer, or if someone did something wonderful. H and I had a disagreement over this last night.
  • Places like Starbucks, where they just hand you stuff? I don't think I've ever tipped there. Same with ice cream.

  • I tip at Coldstone. I don't tip at Starbucks.

  • Only if I have change and don't want it in my wallet. Is that horrible? I rarely tip places like that.

  • Do they still sing at Coldstone? We went there last night, and I haven't been in years. I remember they used to sing when you gave a tip. Plus, the service was not good.

When I frequented a local coffee shop, I always tipped. In return, they started making my drink when they saw me pull up.
  • I tip pretty much everywhere. Unless I am in the drive through.

If you use the drive-in's intstead of the drive thru at Sonic I definitely think it's appropriate to tip. I'll give Coldstone or other places like that whatever change is left. Same for coffee houses if they happen to have a tip jar out.

  • I never tip at Sonic, I never even thought about that. All they do is bring your food...? I typically tip of there's a line for it, because I feel cheap if I don't.
  • I don't drink coffee, but I don't think I've ever tipped at an ice cream place beyond the coin change I get back - if I even have cash.
  • Special, I think they do, but that isn't why I tip. I think making your servers sing for tips is silly.

  • Good point, Rachers. I seriously never thought of that lol. Maybe my next Sonic carhop will get a tip.

I agree. I'm less likely to tip if they have to do something humiliating.

  • I think I've eaten at Sonic a total of twice. Do they still wear roller skates?

  • I always felt so bad for servers at Joes Crab Shack having to dance. I mean, I'd be all over it, but there are people who wouldn't and just need a job and are working there because it's work. Also, I'm sure it gets old quick.

My nearby Sonic doesn't have the carhop on rollerskates. H was bummed. We tip the server there.

I generally tip if there's a tip jar, usually whatever coin change I get if it's for a coffee or ice cream, maybe a dollar or two for places where I order at the counter or get take out.
  • I just started watching GCB, and the hottie from JAG is on it. I think I'll continue watching.

I have another random question. I swear I'm not trying to make the morning thread all about me. BIL (of baseball wedding/garden hose fame) has a new job delivering Little Debbie stuff. He says when stuff is about to expire, he's supposed to take it home/give it to friends/throw it away. Because of that, he's on his way over here to drop off a case of Nutter Butters.

Since BIL has a questionable moral compass, and I have no familiarity with this practice, does anyone now if this is an actual thing? Or is BIL going to be delivering stolen property to my house?
  • LDY, the new sweet potato tots are delicious.

Yup, and the slushies. Oh, but if service is terrible I will not tip. I refuse to.

  • Special - I love GCB. I have been watchng it since it started. And I don't know about your BIL... do you think he would do that? I mean, wouldn't he just consume stolen property himself?

  • I'm pretty sure that's an actual thing, Special. I base this solely off the people who work the vending in my building and at my HD. They had to take the expired items out of the machine but would always just leave them on the table for people to take for free.

Our Sonic still has the people on roller skates. Now I want Sonic.

  • Yes, Habs, I think he would. The only time he ever thinks of others is when it suits him, and I don't think he likes Nutter Butters.

That's good to know, Midge. After knowing his history, I'm hesitant to ever believe him. H was afraid I was going to turn the hose on him.
  • Fezz you are like a month away are you excited?

  • Morning.

BIL finally arrived after a long day of travel. He is out getting coffee while I'm waiting for the banana bread to finish baking. Not really sure of the plans. I'm not even sure if I have to entertain him while DH is at work. No one in his family makes any plans.

Funny thing. DH's grandma died in the fall and they cleaned out her place (well that's not the funny part). Grandma kept a plate DH made in 1977 ( he was about 6). Apparently back then DH spelled his nickname with an ending of 'ie' not an 'y' like it is now. I'm very curious to here when and why it was changed.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
