Re: Kindle for $149 on Woot

  • Nice!  I was going to get Nick one for his birthday, but then he changed his mind.  His birthday is Saturday and I'm still at a loss :(

  • Well, H and I are the proud new owners of a kindle.  Now I just need to find a good case for it.

I want a kindle so bad but I'm afraid that if I get one I'll do the same thing I did when I got my iPod....I never bought another CD or album again.  I love books too much and I'm scared that I will never expand my library again.  Frown
  • I honestly think it'll be nice to carry around less paper, but I'm in grad school so I always have way too much stuff to carry anyway.  Any good case recommendations?

  • Amazon sells a Kindle carrying case for $35.  It's a little more expensive than I'd like to spend, but I'd say it's worth it if it protects it well enough.

  • I saw that... and my birthday is next Saturday... But I am afraid I'll never buy books again, or that I would keep buying books and not use the Kindle...
  • They announced Kindle for Droid yesterday, so I'm going to wait and try it that way.  I like to read on the train, but I go through books too fast to keep paying full price for them.

That's awesome. I love Woot. I'm going to ask FI if he wants one since he's using public transportation a lot more now.

  • I've been living under a rock and your post was the first time I'd ever heard of Woot. I googled it and have been reading about it - pretty awesome!! Laughing

  • I just went and they're all sold out. :( It's a good thing they're sold out though, because that was an offer that I wasn't sure I could pass up. I'm on a budget though and don't need to be spending money. :)
  • Me too Birdie.. I had just pressed Purchase after sitting here for a few minutes contemplating.. and then it was sold out. Probably for the better.

I'm not ready to give up my paper books. though I will read free stuff on my iPhone now and again so I don't have to cart around a book.

I went two weekends ago to buy an iPad from Best Buy (so I could get the 18 month no interest financing) and they were sold out, had no idea when they would get more, and couldn't tell me what days they typically get any in. Other than calling them every morning (which I'm far too lazy to do) there's essentially no way to know when and if they ever have any.

  • I would really like a Kindle, but I can't justify getting it right now. eBooks are just a few dollars cheaper, if at all, than books I can buy on Amazon and get shipped to me for free. The only benefit would be the small size of the Kindle and being able to take it places (like work) and not be noticed I'm reading. :) And my tiny bookshelf is filling up fast and I have an odd attachment to my books - I can't give them away for some reason.

I would love an iPad too, but really can't justify that one...  If only money grew on trees.
  • M-Edge has cases for Kindle.

Also, I love having a paper book but I ended up getting a Nook for Christmas. I love having a bunch of books with me at one time but I still buy paper books too.
  • Oh what to do. H is getting me a GPS soon and it's also 149. But I've been wanting a Kindle forever. Damn the decisions!

  • Night, I have these two covers. (Yes, my Kindle has different outfits)

It's in the yellow one right now, since it's more sporty and summery-looking. Both are great, though. I highly recommend the M-Edge products. I also ahve the M-Edge book light and it fits nicely into both cases.
