another HR question...

this time for H.  He is applying to a public works position and it wants grounds maintenance experience.  He's worked at 3 different golf courses doing jobs very similar to what this new job is looking for.  Question is, whats the best way to relist duties that are virtually the same under 3 different employers?  Like literally it's going to be the same 6 or so duties and tasks for each golf course so his resume just looks silly and repetitive.... there's only so many ways you can re-word "mowed grass"....

do we do a functional oriented resume instead of chronological one?

Re: another HR question...

  • Has he had experience outside of those three golf courses? If so, perhaps you could do it chronolocially, but list those three courses together. Like

    Latest Job (date)
    -functions

    Previous job (date)
    -functions

    Golf course 1 (date)
    Golf course 2 (date)
    golf course 3 (date)
    -functions
  • His golf course jobs are intermixed with other relevant jobs.... I just don't want the function/skills/job duties section of 3 jobs to be so repetitive

  • Maybe do it the opposite then.

    Job Title
    duties
    Golf course 1 with dates
    Golf course 2 with dates
    Golf course 3 with dates

  • Yeah I understand. If he was just a groundsworker at the golf course and has had "higher responsibility" jobs since then, then I could see it being ok to list his other jobs and then the three golf courses together at the end like I showed above. That way you're only listing the function/skills part once but you're still showing that he's done it for three separate jobs for X amount of time.
  • sounds good- thanks ladies

  • I put a "relevant skills" section underneath my education, which I changed depending on the jobs I was applying to.  It basically re-worded and summarized the most important skills of all my jobs, which were listed afterwards with a little more detail. He could try something like that.
