I'm so glad I found these boards. I've been stalking them for hours already.
I have a bit of an awkward situation I wouldn't mind getting some fresh and neutral perspective on.
I'm getting married in a few months in a small ceremony and reception (less than 100 people.)
My dad's best friend has been my only uncle-figure throughout my entire life. I love him, and I know he loves me.
I wanted to ask him to our master of ceremonies, but never got a chance to see him over the holidays.
I called him a few days ago to ask, and this is how the conversation went:
Me: Hi Uncle John! I'm just calling because I didn't have a chance to see you at Christmas, and I'm just wondering if you'll be our master of ceremonies.
Him: *awkward pause* Oh wow. I don't know what to say there honey.
Me: You don't have to let me know right now. You can think about it.
Him: *more awkwardness* Yep, I'm going to have to think about it.
Has anyone had this happen to them? I know it's hard not to take it personally, but I can't really help it. That phone conversation was on Monday, and I still haven't heard from him.
Did I breach etiquette? Is it like making a guest work? I thought it would be sort of an honor for him, but now it's just all weird / awkward and tense.
