I flame Nebb and AATB for cross-board insulting me in SB's Wednesday Edition.

Thanks for calling me a dolt - and a dumbass - for sharing my passion for severe weather. Something you and I apparently have in common, Nebb. That's too bad. I'm currently going through the training to get certified as a severe weather spotter for the National Weather Service. I actually do know what I'm doing. I'm not just an idiot with a death wish running around with a camera in her hands. But thanks for asking.

I guess it really is true, what they say about people who make assumptions.

Also, FI and I have been collecting fun caricatures and photo-booth photos of ourselves since our first date. The sig pic was our 1st anniversary and is our absolute favorite. If you don't like it, there's a neat little button to "hide" signatures. Try it.

I hadn't seen this, but this is the lamest thing I've ever heard. Who cares if you talk to people off of the Knot? It isn't like you're a presidential cabinet member or something. Get over yourselves.

I've been emailing with Squirrly, Btrflykate, lilgina, etc. about getting together. So there. Oh, maybe that's a secret. Now I'll have to destroy FFF to get rid of the metadata showing this.

F/U to the window: FI asked if it could be replaced, landlord said no, FI didn't feel like he had a leg to stand on, anyway, but he tried. Landlord came back to paint and replace the moulding around the window. I still hate the way it looks on the top with the LACK OF WINDOW, but it looks a little better now that it's finished.

And we are very good tenents - been there 2 years, pay rent on time, help keep the bushes trimmed, alert him to problems like when the gate is broken or the dryer isn't producing heat. Help keep the outside clean. Out of the 4 tenents on the property, we're the only ones that pitch in and keep up the common areas (driveway, sidewalk, laundry room).

Exactly. I used to live in Santa Monica and didn't exactly have $800K to shell out for a 2bd condo. Now I live in Brookline and own a condo, but it makes me sick when I see how much house I could have bought in most of the country for the amount I paid for a 900 sq. ft condo.

Not everyone can afford and sometimes it isn't the right time. A lot of my friends and I don't know where we'll be living year to year, so no, buying a home isn't the best idea for a lot of people. You should be able to rent a place that is well-maintained and safe.
In Response to Re: FFF : I don't feel a patronizing vibe at all. We were renters until less than a year ago, because your suggested dollar figure IS what houses here cost. I never suggested (nor do I think anyone else did) that you shouldn't have pride in where you live because you rent- what I did suggest though, is that your landlord is free to make choices that he sees fit to your apartment because ultimately, it is his. He replaced your nice, tall window with a shorter window, yes, but it is functional, and sometimes, that's the way it goes. I also think the fact that you said it was because he was a Russian landlord and they have "people" was pretty crappy.
    Posted by mrs.jesse
It was a joke that fell flat. I live in a neighborhood with a tight-knit Russian community. (There's actually a monument to WWII dead from the Soviet Union at the park near my house.) He DOES know a lot of people who can get him x, y and z. When FI told me, "Well, landlord knows a guy who can get him a regular window..." My response was, "OF COURSE he does, he always 'knows a guy'." But I admitted it's worked out well in the past - like with our granite counter tops.
