Re: It's Saturday Night..

  • I'm waiting for my cakes to cool so I can frost them. I'm making a 1st birthday cake for our friend's daughter. My cakes fell apart this morning and I had to start over after lunch. I'm just crossing my fingers nothing else goes wrong.

  • Oh no! How did they fall apart?
  • I used boxed cakes and you know how they advertise how they're all moist and junk? Well, moist cakes aren't great for stacking, and they don't always come out of pans very well, either. I used the wrong brand to save $1 and it back-fired on me. I knew better.

  • You know better than to use boxed cakes, Brooke!

I'm relaxing for a few min, we've been unpacking the house/doing laundry all day. We should get done with everything but the spare bedroom tonight. I call that room my 'room to Narnia'. It's a wreck and I don't know how to make it all better. It is supposed to eventually be my craft room though. We'll see how well that goes...

We just signed up for Netflix and when I start dinner, H is going to go buy the Xbox card we need to stream over the tv. I'm really excited about that!

  • I'm working til 830, then a bike ride home to wait for FI to get home from work at 1130. Then start over again tomorrow, except I work in the morning tomorrow..

I'm making Ratatouille for dinner tomorrow, so tonight is prep... :))

Yeah, I think this is my last episode of cheating. I figured that this cake was a big enough under-taking, I didn't want to mess with a from-scratch recipe. I've learned my lesson.

  • I'm here, waiting for Rick to get off of work. We're going to a friend's to watch the UFC fight Undecided
  • I'm sitting at work, whiny and feeling sorry for myself.

Two girls I graduated with just found out they'll be starting full time teaching jobs on Monday. They were both doing interims (one in the county I currently interim for, the other a county I didn't apply for) and got calls for full time jobs.

I'll be out of work on September 17th, and haven't heard of any more available interims, so I'm having a mini panic attack.

  • steph, I really loved Bloodroot Mountain. It's fiction and not really a make you think kinda book, but it had a great story and wasn't a lot of fluff.

I'm personally a Dan Brown fan.. My favorite is Deception Point..

If you want something "Girly" anything by Emily Giffin is amazing.. I'm hooked on the Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts lately..
  • Hey ladies!  Trevor has some steaks on the grill so I'm waiting to eat!  Yum.  Oh and drinking a beer in the mean time.

Jocelyn's school gives them these lame bags for school and makes each kid decorate them before the frist day - so she and I have been working on that all day.  I want it to be the most cute bag in school, but still look like a 3 year old did it.  We'll see.
  • thanks, i'll check those out!

  • I just had one messed up day. My mom and my aunt came out to visit. My aunt was so messed up from her prescription medications she didn't wake up till 4pm today. My mom  was aggravated, i was annoyed. We went out to dinner and she could barely interact in conversation. I was so embarrassed.

We dropped them off at their hotel and H just made me a drink. I'm waiting for our son to go to sleep.

Hey there, ladies! FI and I just got back from an awesome hike in Marin, so we're going to spend the evening eating over pizza and doing a Cube/Rent double-feature. I think this is the first evening without plans that we've had since, oh, July.

Debjwes, I'm sorry your aunt isn't doing well. That sounds like a really tough day :(

Is that always how she reacts to her meds? That would have concerned me
  • she has always abused her prescription drugs. She tries to play it off that she needs them for seizures, but most of them aren't for seizures. This is how she acts when she gets them at the first of them month. She got them early because she told the pharmacies she was going out of town.

  • Yes, Duds! I am here to chat with you.

I came to my best friend's house today to watch a few movies, and then we decided to cook dinner, so I felt like I should call my husband to join us, (I know, super-kind, right?) and now they're both watching football.

    Gag.

    What's up?

  • For anyone who likes books that read quickly that make you laugh out loud, Jen Lancaster is the best. They're memoirs.

She's smart, funny and I love, love, love her books. I'm currently reading her newest book, My Fair Lazy. Her others are Bitter is the New Black - Bright Lights, Big Ass - Such a Pretty Fat and Pretty in Plaid.

    I seriously love her stuff.
