In a freaking SPELLING BEE. On the 16th of January.

The Altrusa group in Fargo/Moorhead is doing a spelling bee for a fund raiser/charity event to support the Ready to Learn program, and I was drafted on to one of the corporate teams.

The kicker?

We're competing against teams made up of 6th graders.

The other kicker? It will be televised.

I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I'm gonna get my spell on!

I even get a list of words to study. Lord help me. It's bringing me back to my 4th grade spelling bee when I got out on the word discipline.

Just be careful to use English spellings and NOT Canadian spellings.

I got 3rd place in the 5th grade spelling bee because I missed the word "its".  I put an apostrophe, I remember the sentence they used it in was something about a horse and "its tail".  I cried.....HARD  LOL.

That's so funny and exciting!  I would be so nervous up against kids.  They're actually still in school and practicing spelling, so they've got one up on you!

I won the school spelling bee in 4th grade and 6th grade.  There's a plaque with my name on it in two different states

Good luck.. I took 2nd place in my 4th grade spelling bee.  I still don't know how to spell Pigeon (I had to look that up to make sure it was right).

I KNOW, Dani! Right? My experience right now is limited to internet message boards where people can't spell for shiit. And I doubt twatwaffle will be on the list of words.

 I fully expect for them to win, but we AT LEAST want to have a good showing!

I would be sucktastic at that. I have this theory that I never learned to spell because I was good at reading when I was younger so they put me in the 'good' spelling group too - thus ensuring I never learned basic words. I am embarrassingly bad.

I did win the regional eighth grade geography bee though, so there!!

Ooh, I hope you take the sixth graders down!!

My spelling bee arch-nemesis word is "reservoir" - in 8th grade, I missed the 2nd "r". I never would have made it past the school spelling bee anyway since we had a creepy 7th grade genius that won regionals, but still. I hold a grudge against the word reservoir to this day.
