Does anyone have one of these? Do you really use it or is something that sits in your cupboard after the novelty wears off? If you use it, what are your favorite soda flavors?
Do they really save any money or is this a far more expensive way for DS to get a rootbeer fix?
Re: Anyone have a Soda Stream?
The people I know who have them mostly use them for making bubbly water rather than the soda, and they looked at the device's advantage as helping them get over their soda fix. However, H doesn't drink sparkling water, and I did buy some of the syrups, so we'll see.
Sorry I'm not of more use. I'm assuming you read the million reviews of the Soda Stream and the syrup flavors on amazon?
We're Married!! And I couldn't be happier!
Also you can make your own mixes/syrups by diluting sugar into water and adding flavor (lots of recipes out there if you google it), and some people use the Torani syrups intended for flavoring coffee and drinks.
We have one. Its more work than grabbing a soda from the fridge, but you can make your own flavors so there are more options. I think its good, but if you love one particular soda it probably won't be exactly the same.

We have been using it and from what I have gathered, light colored sodas/ sparkling juices hold the carbonation better than dark colored sodas. I have to use a lot more carbonation for the Dr. Pete (I prefer the Diet cola though, but we didn't buy the full bottle, just the sample pack) but the lemon lime soda was perfect. We have only had it a few weeks and are very pleased, but I guess we will see how much money we save after we have had it a while. We drink A LOT of soda, so I am pretty sure this is a good investment, especially since we have used it for a party and everyone loved to choose their flavors.

[QUOTE]We've got one on our Christmas list and plan to use it to carbonate juices since I'm addicted to my bubbly cranberry and orange and those are not cheap pre-made at almost $2. per 12oz. the SodaStream pretty much will be our dream come true.

I would double check just to make sure you can, because I know the instructions for our model explicitly state only use to carbonate water. But maybe other ones are different.
