Need some ideas

It is slow at the office today so...

Do you have any idea what I could do for favors at my cousin's bridal shower?  I am doing a Marie Antoinette themed tea party and the bride/ a large majority of the guests are going to be 18-19 years old.

  • you could have a guillotine :)
  • Well, I suppose "Let them eat cake" is too obvious.

Please give me more details about this theme and how it works as a bridaklshower?

Yeah,  I meant to type that, and I realized I hadn't when I saw it posted.   Apparently today my hands are not quite caught up to my brain just yet.   Which is bad because my job revolves partially around my ability to type things.

But I still don't really understand how it's a theme for a bridal shower.

  • Did you ever see Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette?  My cousin is really into the "pretty princess" idea for her wedding, so I though throwing her a shower with a lot fun deserts like the movie would be a more classy way of doing that theme without looking like pink threw up everywhere.

  • My bridal shower was tea party themed and these were the favors:

My aunt got vintage tea cups and saucers from Goodwill, and put honey sticks, cinnamon sticks, fancy sugar cubes, and tea bags in pacakges with our name/date on them in it.

Granted, this is kind of grandma-ish for a young crowd, but you could always do more modern cups and such.

  • You don't have to do favours.
But if it were me, I'd do cake. Too cheesy, but so cheesy it's almost good.

  • I like Jill's suggestion of macaroons (so French!), or a cake-shaped cookie.

    Something like this: http://elenis.com/store/product/chelsea-cake/?cat=26

If they were older, you could do mini champagne bottles.

I would do some sort of pastry.
But I guess you would have those at the party, not necessarily as favors.
If you have good pastries, no one will miss favors!
    Mmmm doughnuts...om nom nom

Actually, Brie's idea is really cute.  Do that....and pastries and/or cake.
  • Well...in the movie didn't she and her husband never have sex?  And then she gets beheaded?

So maybe focus less on her name as your theme and more on like a vintage French theme or just tea party theme.  So with that in mind, I would do edible favors.  A little box of chocolates or mini cake or something.

I had a tea for my bridal shower.  Here are some pics.

  • That is the other thing I am struggling with, the bride mentioned wanting champagne jello.  Any one know what that is?  Is it like a champagne jello shot?

  • There's no way a champagne Jello shot can be good. Aren't most of the girls underage anyway?

Maybe you could get Justin Bieber to perform.

  • Well, the eventually consummated their marriage, but I think she was like 15 when she got married and it took a couple of years.  I just liked the colors and costumes from the movie, so vintage French would be fine too.  On a completely side note, her story is actually kind of romantic, I mean besides the affairs.  The reason she was beheaded is that she refused to leave her husband behind to flee France.

I like the pastry or tea cups.  I didn't even think of good will!

  • I would guess it's Jello made with champagne...which she isn't even going to be able to drink at her wedding, right?

  • Here's a champagne jello punch, but I don't see how you could serve this if the guests are all under 21, well unless you just leave out the champagne.

    Here's another that's more like a dessert

  • Here are more pictures from mine, if you're interested: http://thefitbride.wordpress.com/2010/03/29/wedding-weekend-extravaganza-recap-part-two/

They used the teapots as centerpieces.  Also, we had pudding shots, which are more awesome and classy than champagne Jell-o.

Yeah, I found it be really sad.

  • Ok, so romantic was the wrong word.  I just thought the movie was good inspiration.  I thought it was a way to do "princess" that was a least a little classier than a loads of pink and sparkly tiaras.
    PhotobucketPhotobucketWedding Countdown Ticker
  • She will be 19 and when I went dress shopping with her she wanted a princess ball gown so that is where I am getting this from.  Also here colors are bright pink and silver.

  • I don't have pics here, but I also had a tea party shower and had favors just like Brie's.  The venue put them together and they were beautiful!  We also had a cake shaped like a teapot, which was awesome!

I'd do macaroons, petite fours (I think those would be perfect for this), and maybe some little tarts.  And maybe the jello would taste better with sparkling grape juice.

If you like Marie Antoinette, you should read Antonia Fraser's biography.  It is wonderful...though it will likely change your impression of her story as a romantic one :).
