Bridesmaids height difference

I have 6 bridesmaids. 4 of us are around the same height (5'0"-5'2"). I have 1 bridesmaid who is 5'7". I asked her if she would mind wearing kitten heels, and she replied that she thinks high heels would look better. If she wears high heels (3"), she'll be at least 7 inches taller than the rest of us who are also wearing heels. She'll also be the height of most of the groomsmen. The other bridesmaid who is 5'5" said she is also going to wear kitten heels, so my tallest bridesmaid wouldn't be the only one with a small heel if she agreed to wear them. I am really not trying to single her out, and I love her and I honestly do want her to feel beautiful at my wedding.

I am not requiring them all to wear the same shoe, I just would like to even out the height difference a little bit through heel height.

I think 6-8 inches is a noticeable height difference. Am I wrong? I guess I wouldn't mind if we were all different heights but since most of us are about the same, I don't want her to stick out too much. What should I do? Thoughts???

  • I wish it would let me vote twice so I could pick the first and the third option.

  • Oh ffs.  Really?  REALLY?  Find something that actually matters to worry about.
  • This would irritate the crap out of me if I were your BM.  I'm tall-ish (5'10) and am happy to wear 3" heels.  I don't like kitten heels (generally).  The height difference does not matter, and no one will care.  I have 2 BMs who are 5'11, one who is probably 5'8 and one who is like 5'2.

  • Dude. Let her wear whatever footwear she damn well chooses. It's not like 5'7'' is GOLIATH.

And if it is, call me Too Tall Fishy.

    You're being silly.

  • Let it be. It will be fine for pics.
  • I was just in a wedding and was 6 inches taller than all the other girls. It's not a big deal. I'd like to think I didn't ruin any of her photos.

When you take pictures on any other day of your life, do you care if everyone is of the same height? No, as long as you can see everyone's face.

  • Sharon, can I just ask what a good bridesmaid is to you?
  • I heard the Chinese have developed a surgery that elongates the femur so that people can be 1-2" taller.  Do you have enough time before your wedding for your short bridesmaids to undergo that procedure?
  • If she's a good bridesmaid, she'll have 6 inches surgically removed from her legs so you can all be the same height. Duh.

  • I'm 4'10" and my tallest BM is 6'.  I am demanding that she amputate half of lower leg so she is not over a foot taller than me.  I mean...I wouldn't want my pictures to look silly.

  • If 5'7" is Goliath, then I have no idea what my two BM's who are 5'10 would be.

<div>Shag that. The other bridesmaids should stop being so selfish and get their asses up on stilts. Nothing more than a one inch difference in height should be acceptable.</div>

  • Let her be!  There's no need to worry about heights matching.  I would have voted options 1 and 3 if I could
  • I was going to be the tallest BM in a friend's wedding and I offered to wear flats because I don't like to tower over people. (I'm only 5'4"- this was a short wedding party!)

But If it doesn't bother her, it shouldn't bother you. None of your guests will notice or care.

I went to a wedding recently and I don't even remember anything about the BMs. But the bride looked beautiful and happy and that's all that matters.

    Just let it go.

Good lord, LVB. I didn't realize you were so tall - or that Tebow-hubs was so big!

Jealous. VERY jealous. My H is barely 2 inches taller than me. I wore flats and kept my knees bent most of my wedding day.  You got to wear heels and he still towered over you. *sigh* JEALOUS.

    Much better.
  • Seriously?

My bms had an 11" range in height.  The tallest girl wore the tallest heels.  It does.not.matter.  I don't think it's their heights that you notice in our photos.  In fact, this is the only one of our photos where I think height is even noticeable at all.

You didn't pick your friends because of their height or shoe size or hair color did you?  If you want matching bridesmaids that badly, you should have chosen a set of identical multiples.
  • Don't sweat it.
  • If you want your bridesmaids to wear kitten heels then you should pay for them.
  • I totes get you.  I made my blonde bridesmaid dye her hair brown so that we all had the same hair.  She would have stood out so much.

  • They are not auditioning to be Rockettes.  Therefore, they don't need to fit a height requirement.  Good for her for embracing her height.  Some tall women are embarassed of their height (which they shouldn't be), and they wouldn't be caught dead in heels.  Don't worry about it.  Honestly there will be so many things to worry about when you are trying to make your day go as smoothly as possible.  This should be the last thing that you lose sleep over.

  • lmao... reading all these made my day. I'm 5'11" and the majority (3 out of 5) of my girls are 5'2". Since I'm sure I will be rocking heels (prob. 3") at some point that day, that would put us at a foot hight difference. I'll just make sure my sister (5'9") and I bookend the short girls in the pictures, lol.

    You could try clones too.
  • I hate kitten heels.

Also, I didn't realize different heights were such a problem. I'll have to make the girls in my wedding party stand on boxes so they are as tall as I am.
