Re: Bridesmaids height difference

  • She's going to wear stilts, clown stilts with big clown shoes on the bottoms.  She told me.

I wish that I had known about these boards before I was engaged. A couple of years ago, I was a BM and the bride made me ware 3" stilettos, and I never wear heals. I wanted to cry after a couple of hours my feet hurt so bad, but I thought that was a BM's job.

    I'm giggling.
  • okay...geez some of you can be harsh. but i get it. thanks for pointing out and exaggerating my stupidity.

but can i just say this? i'm short, and if a bride asked me to wear high heels, i would do it and not complain. tall people are not the only ones who are self conscious about their height. i only brought up the kitten heels with her because i thought it would make her feel less self conscious if she wasn't significantly taller than the others. but if she wants to wear heels, it's fine. i don't care anymore.

thank you to those who posted their photos. i found this one online and still see that it's a beautiful photo no matter how tall everyone is.
  • Hooray!  A poster who asks for advice, gets it, and actually takes it!  AND keeps a sense of humor about her!  I should play the lottery or something today.

How do you know she's self-conscious about her height?

And if she wasn't before, she certainly is now, thanks to you.
  • 5'2" to 5'7" is not a significant height difference. It's 5 friggin' inches. It's not like she's a foot taller than anyone.

Oh, that's a really good point.  Esp. since 5'7" ain't exactly Attack of the 50 Foot Woman territory.

    FTW! That's hilarious OWN.

OP - It doesn't matter, short or tall, you shouldn't dictate what height your BM's shoes are. At least maybe you saw the light at the end.

You know, one other thing you could do is ask your photographer to pose you guys a little more sensitively when taking pictures. Sure, those lined-up pictures look kind of odd when one person is much taller than everyone else, but with a more casual approach, you guys could have all sorts of lovely photos. Maybe you could take a group pictures on a set stars but all stand at different heights, or lean against a wall, or she could sit and the rest of you could put your faces next to hers all cute-like.

I'd be sad if I were asked not to wear heels in somebody's wedding. For me, I don't feel dressed up unless I'm wearing heels, and I definitely prefer dancing in heels. Also, I find a lot of the flat shoes that are made now are more uncomfortable than my well-built heels. So I think there are lots of ways to let your friend be comfortable the way she wants, and still get what you want.

  • I don't even know how tall my BMs are......hmmm. Well that moment as passed, I don't care how tall they are once again.
  • FYI she's been one of my best friends, for a REALLY long time. she's a bridesmaid in my wedding, so I sort of know her (can you sense my sarcasm?).

Trust me, I know my friends, I discussed this with her and she is NOT self conscious about her height because of me.
  • My bridesmaids and I were all the same height. My wedding was perfect.

Isn't this why God put steps at the front of the church?  For this exact reason?

FWIW - mine range from about 5'-1" to 5'-10" (sans heels).  I'm 5'-5" and FI is 6'-3".  It all comes out in the wash!  I'm just glad to have such good friends to be bridesmaids, in all of their various shapes and sizes!

ETA:  Late as usual.  Dang this working thing!
  • Wow this is like yesterday when that girl told everyone to play nice. I didn't know OPs could set up rules for their threads.
  • All of my BM's are going to be taller and skinnier than me. The bitches. I should just shove twinkies down their throats!
