S/O Annoying Things - Crying at the Wedding

If you are getting married, how much do you anticipate crying at your wedding?

If you are already married, did you cry at your wedding?

As I said in mag's thread, I did not cry at my wedding, much to my surprise. I would choke up listening to our processional music beforehand, or imagining my parents walking me down the aisle and then-FI's face at the end of it. I thought for sure I would be a blubbering mess at the ceremony.

But the day of, I was so nervous/excited/exhausted/giddy that it didn't even occur to me to cry. I was just on top of the world happy, and I'm not the type to cry out of happiness. My sister tried to make me cry with her MOH toast too, but that didn't work.

Man, I was sure I wouldn't cry at the wedding.  And then, during the vows, I did.  It was kind of funny because I managed to keep the tears back, but my nose was running horribly.  I thought it would be gross if I was standing up there snorting back the snot, so I stole H's silk handkerchief.  He didn't want it back. HAHA!

I posted this in the crying thread, but I'm pretty sure I'll probably cry all day. Just thinking about it makes me cry. I'm such a sucker about big, emotional stuff like weddings. Especially my own. I mean, I don't want to cry a bazillion times on my wedding day, but I probably will

I cried when I saw my family dressed up, especially my dad in his tux. I also cried when I finally got to the top of the aisle and the priest was saying the opening blessing. Mike teared and cried the entire time I walked down the aisle. For me it was the perfect balance of emotion and going with the moment.

I'm a sympathy crier...if I see someone else crying, I cry. I hope I'm not a huge snotty mess though.

I cried a little before, when I was talking to my mom and thinking about the magnitude of the day. When the time came though, DH and I were all smiles the whole time.

I didn't cry the whole day leading up to the wedding. I was totally calm and collected, but started freaking out as we were waiting in the hall to walk in. The way my wedding location was set up, I had to walk across a kind of suspended walkway and then down some stairs while everyone could see me. As soon as I got to the bottom of the stairs and turned into the aisle and saw Marc, I lost it. I cried all the way up the aisle and pretty much cried all through the vows. The best part is that when I cry, my chest gets all red and blotchy. Pretty sure I looked like a freak when I was greeting everyone in the receiving line.

Aw, you guys, hearing your sob stories makes me want to cry! Seriously. But not for my own wedding. Gosh I'm weird.

Amoro, that's gross but funny. I hope you saved it as a wedding keepsake! You could have it bronzed or something. Your snot + his hankie, united as one on your special day.

Oh, I'm pretty sure I'll cry.  I'll be investing in the best waterproof makeup there is.

Berryholly, it's funny because as much as I've heard bridal sob stories, I've never seen terrible pictures of said brides. I think crying brides are still beautiful, and it's expected so it's extra touching.

That's like the only thing worrying me about getting married. I bawled like a baby when he proposed. I cry so easily with emotional stuff. Babies being born, people getting engaged or married, family members getting a raise or promotion, etc. It's ridiculous.

Oh, and even better, when I cry my whole body turns red and blotchy, as do my cheeks, eyes, and snotty nose. It's disgusting.

This happened to me too, which was why I kept listening to our ceremony music beforehand and imagining the day. But my goal was to <em>not</em> cry, so I tried to decondition myself. Also, I had a good cry the day before from all the stress and excitement around, and I think that helped take the edge off. So maybe you'll luck out (if you don't want to cry at your wedding, that is). ;)

I did a  little before the wedding, I was walking down the aisle to get pictures done.  I didn't cry, like bawl, but tears were welling up.

I made my friend blow in my eyes so I didn't ruin my make up.

Jesus, I haven't even thought of how awful I'll look if I do end up crying a bunch. Not only does my nose go bright red, but I get terribly puffy in the eyes.

Exactly shelly. It's all about keeping the makeup intact. J&K, are you going to do fake lashes? That can help against makeup smudge from crying, though you'll probably still have mascara on, just not as much.

I thought I'd be crying but I don't think I shed a tear the entire day DH and I were married.

But as a side effect, I could hardly eat a freakin' thing until we were at the reception.

I've thought about my hair.  A LOT.  Mostly because my hair is the most difficult body part (if you can call it that) that I have.   Does that make you feel better?  I've been thinking about how I'm going to do my hair fo ralmost as long as we've been engaged :-p

Banana - Sounds like maybe you were too nervous to cry? Not a bad way to go.

JK, that does make me feel better. I guess we all have our little parts that we worry about. I think I obsessed more over my face looking right than I did about my dress or hair. It didn't turn out exactly as I'd hoped, but it wasn't as bad as I feared. So we can expect some hair PIP posts from you in a few months, eh?

Most definitely!  I ask my poor MOH every week "Woudl my hair do THIS?"  She's a fabulous sport   I her.

Right!  I'm pretty excited, she's currently in the process of moving 3 hours closer to me.  To better do her job, of course!

That is really awesome. I'd be ecstatic if any of my close girlfriends lived within a days drive of me. Well, my sister lives 10 hours away, but my other bff's are in CO.

Oh, I cried.  I definitely cried.  I cried when we had our first look.  I realized in the elevator down I forgot tissue and for some reason DH didn't have a hanky so I had to do the crazy flapping my hands at my face thing so I wouldn't ruin my makeup.  Cried all the way through my vows.  Cried during a couple of the speeches.  Also cried like crazy the night before when DH's BM showed everyone the "Newlywed Game" video he made of the two of us answering questions about each other.

That's sad   I know the feeling!  We've been in different states since I graduated from HS, and we'll still be in different states, but now she'll be about an hour and a half drive away.  It's incredibly exciting.  I'm sorry your friends are all so far!  I know how much it sucks!

Beatles, I was definitely too nervous to cry and then at the altar, it was SO freakin hot!  I was comfy and cool but at that spot in the church, the AC barely hit us and DH nearly passed out.  I spent the pre-vow portion of the ceremony just holding his hand and rubbing it to try to calm him down and let him know I was there.   It was at that exact moment that I knew "this is my husband, I'm here for him, and this crying BS isn't going to help anything."

So we made it through the vows and no one fainted!!

Aw thanks, it's alright. Out here I have mostly nerdy guy friends from my program (angned would disapprove). It's fine most days, but it sucks when I just need someone to get their hair done with me or give their opinion on clothes and shoes. I'm psyched for you though!

Julez, you're such a pretty crier. If I had your awesome wedding setup I might have cried too. I think meeting H for the first time that day in front of a bunch of people helped me keep it together. If it was private like yours, who knows what would have happened!

Banana, that's really sweet! Your H was lucky to have to there to keep it together. We had a similar experience, in that where we stood was a patch of direct sunlight on an otherwise cool autumn day. So H started sweating profusely all of a sudden, and I could tell he was really self-conscious about it so I tried to reassure him as much as I could. I even reached out to "tenderly stroke" his face, but was really helping him wipe the sweat off. Well, I bet you felt enormously relieved at the reception.
